4K Ultra HD is the way to go for me. I happened to pick up a 4K movie, but forgot that my PS4 doesn’t support it. I checked into players and settled on this Sony due to the features and reviews. So glad I did. I believe the picture quality beats even the streaming 4K and there is no worry about buffering issues since it is playing directly from a disc. It does have some streaming features, but I have not decided to tap into them yet.

For starters the 4K BluRay UHD discs look fantastic, and play smoothly. The player is a bit on the larger side and has a hefty weight to it, feels well made and durable. It’s also very quiet. I never heard it spin up to a loud hum or anything like that. There’s no need for it to be excluded from the same room your TV is in as it is very quiet. The menu is well laid out and it’s easy to plug in and get right into your first movie in as little as 10 to 15 minutes.Under the more detailed settings options menus it has plenty of settings to customize, adjust picture quality, turn HDR on/off, etc. It’s not lacking any settings you may want to change or pick.We don’t use the streaming apps as our TV already has them so I am not able to comment on that or the general use and performances of those streaming apps, however I imagine they’re plenty fine.I’ve watched the same movie 3 times through so far (Interstellar) and it has worked flawlessly. I don’t foresee this UHD BluRay player having any difficulties in handling heavier use or a shorter lifespan than my previous BluRay player. So far it’s excellent and works just as advertised.A caution on the weight and size of the box: it’s big and has a good heft to it. In my opinion that signals durability and an effort to isolate vibration which is what you would hope for to ensure smooth playback with the UHD discs as from my understanding vibrations can cause pauses and skipping – however I have experienced none of that and playback is smooth and reliable. The remote feels a bit cheap but it’s a remote – it works just fine and for something I use for 30 seconds to pick and play I really don’t mind, and some of the other reviews being picky on the remote are just nit-picking. It’s fine.I’ve seen some reviews state vibration, skips, etc. however I have not experienced any of that. It just works which is what you’d want and expect.Really loving it and will be using it for a long time to come. Future of 4K BkuRay looks great, and I have no trouble finding movies I want on Amazon. It’s nice to have them on BluRay so you can experience the higher fidelity and ownership rights without renting or streaming them in subpar quality. The picture quality is truly suburb. I highly recommend this player to anyone looking for one that is well made, durable, and “just works”.

This unit produces a beautiful, deep, and detailed image. The same description applies to the sound as well…excellent, especially through a mid- to high-end soundbar/music system. Very solid build and “feel.” A very good step up from the Samsung unit it replaced, and an affordable price to boot.Highly recommended!

Great for a refurbished machine. It was a little more worn than expected. The housing had been put back on but it was off some. I simply unscrewed it and reset it… However, bc it had been put back on so sloppily, some of the plastic cips broke. The performance, however, is fantastic. And cosmeticly you can’t really tell there are any issue’s with the machine.Comparing this to the Panasonic ub9000, it actually competes very well. Probably due to the fact I run it on Sony A8G Oled and this machine does Dolby Vision while the Panasonic didn’t

I don’t mind having to manually activate or deactivate the Dolby Vision protocol; I’m not that lazy. Both the 800M2 and the earlier X700 possessed and granted access to Dolby Vision in the same way. However, what I like the most about the X800M2 over the X700 is that the unit, being a way heavier and solid unit, runs quieter. If you have your equipment isolated in a soundproofed cabinet or off-site equipment closet, this may not be a problem, but if like my set up, the UHD Blu Ray player is right under the screen, when a 4K Blu Ray movie revs up you can hear the motor spinning furiously on the Sony X700. It’s way quieter on the X800M2, nowhere near as distracting during quiet moments during a movie.

After having had experience with Panasonic, LG, and Xbox, this Sony 4K UHD Blu-ray Player takes the cake!First off, the build quality is solid. It has some decent weight to it. Sony claims this has a chassis that can reduce vibration interference which helps with audio quality. Which leads me to the next thing about this player. Yes, the audio. It is by far the best sounding player I’ve ever owned. Dolby Atmos and DTS X movies sound amazing. Key thing to note, always use the HDMI Audio only for sound and HDMI 1 for directly to you TV. Trust me, it makes a difference to split the two. Back to the Audio.. so the real star of the show for me is how amazing my music CDs sound. It has given new life to my collection! Just make sure to switch on the DSEE HX upscaling in the settings. It’s also great that this plays SACD and DVD-Audio, and they sound great too. When it comes to picture quality, there’s really not much to say other than it delivers a faithful image of 4K movies. There doesn’t seem to a processor that amplifies the picture to deliver a more vibrant picture. Which is fine with me. Although, 2k Blu rays and DVD’s do get a boost in quality. And now to pros and cons.Pros: 1: Price point is very appealing especially for everything you get.2: I like the remote. It has nice feedback when clicking, and you don’t need to point directly at the player to get it to work. Also, the remote doesn’t have any stupid buttons labeled Netflix or Amazon prime near any of the key common buttons. Panasonic has them strategically near those key buttons to get you to accidentally click them, which I always did.3: Performance is flawless. Menus navigation is fluid, never had a hiccup in over a month of ownership. Fast to boot, quiet when running.Cons: 1: Streaming is limited to 3 apps, frankly this is not a con to me as I feel that a 4K player should not be ones streaming player so don’t count on this to be better than a Roku or Apple TV.2: Player is very large. Take this under consideration if you plan to put it in a tight spot.3: Manual Dolby Vision activation is lame. Why Sony? Why?In closing this player seems to be in competition with Panasonic’s $500.00 UB820, and after using the 820 I noticed a minor improvement on picture quality compared to Sony. Audio was par with Sony, if not a minor improvement. But Audio for music Sony blows Panasonic out of the water. Those minor upgrades don’t justify $250.00 more than Sony. Besides, the UB820 had handshaking problems with my LG OLED C9 a hand full of times, it’s cheaply built, a bit noisy, and doesn’t support SACD & DVD-Audio. Stick with the Sony, you’ll be happy with your purchase.

Unboxed today, upgraded the firmware and you need to go in the setup and select ON to dolby vision. This way every time you play a Dolby vision disc, it will play it using a dolby vision format. It comes set to standard HDR because “all” tvs are HDR but not all of them are Dolby Vision as well. This review to disregard all reviews where people say that they have to set the dolby vision format every time they play a disc.

As long as it continues to perform the way it should,I’m very impressed.Picture quality is outstanding and I don’t even have a 4K Television.Impressive audio with surround.Revitalized my interest in watching movies.

This unit was a breeze to install and the picture is amazing. The only negative I found is what seems like an inability to load any apps other than the ones that are preloaded: Netflix Hulu and Amazon Prime. Maybe there is a way to do but I have not figured it out yet. Otherwise no complaints.

I did a lot of researched and checked out a lot of models, Sony, LG and Panasonic. The reviews pointed to the x700, but with my new Sony TV this model was a better fit, and for the extra money, has a lot of extra features-better cabinet, Dolby vision, better sound to name a few. Setup was very easy and before I knew it it was time to check out the performance. Pictures were sharp and crisp and sound was great. I tested blu rays, DVDs and CDs, everything looked and sounded great. Amazon’s price beat all competitors and shipping took 2 days. Great product!
