Long-time user of fast, high quality lenses on both Full-Frame and Crop cameras.. I was familiar with Rokinon through some of their other lenses such as the 8mm fisheye for APC-C/Crop cameras. Wanting an ultra-wide for a full-frame (6D), the Rokinon 14mm was the right price at about 1/8th the price of the Canon 14mm 2.8.The lens itself is very heavy at a bit over a pound. It feels high quality and something you’ll be fine taking around outdoors. The lens cap is a proprietary one and a bit bulky (when not on camera). From my experience with the 8mm Rokinon, if these break they’re pricey to find a replacement for and the tabs on my 8mm didn’t last for too long. Also included is a soft-pouch. I found the quality of this to be very throw-away. I don’t see it doing much other than protecting it from dust. Any drops or spills will likely not be helped at all by the bag.The lens itself looks very nice — it’s black, white and red. Some photos show a gold-stripe around the lens which I believe is the older version. The new ones look much nicer. The lens itself is EF mount and can be used on a full-frame or crop camera (on a crop camera from canon it becomes about 22mm equivalent). There is NO autofocus *OR* focus confirmation on the canon version, and this is what separated it from the 2200 dollar Canon version. You will need to manually focus, and with it being such an ultra-wide, it’s easy to miss focus because EVERYTHING looks in focus through the viewfinder. I recommend Liveview and zooming in. The focus ring has a far throw, requiring quite a bit of turning to get from the closest focusing distance (11 inches) to the furthest. I found this helpful for fine-tuning the focus. The big selling point here besides the ultra-wide field of view is the f/2.8 aperture. f/2.8 will give you a nice blurred background while f/8 or f/11 will keep most of the shot in focus. Most wide angle shots are hard to get a blurred background, but the f/2.8 definite does it in this case. Beautiful wide-angle shots with a very smooth background. There is some distortion but it’s pretty minimal for a lens this wide — this is not a fisheye by any meant. You can work the distortion more by the angle of the lens (pointing up or down towards subjects).Sharpness is very high at f/2.8 and gives a very nice shot. Colors are good throughout. Love the quality produced by this lens and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

I love this lens. My primary focus right now is astrophotography and the widest (non-fisheye) lens I had was the kit F/3.5 18-55 mm.For astrophotography you really want a wide lens to cover as much of the sky and landscape as possible to keep the photograph interesting. The other important part is having a lens with a very low F-stop so your exposures can be shorter and you avoid picking up star trailing. The 14mm focal length on this lens paired with the F/2.8 makes for great night photographs. If astrophotography isn’t your thing, this lens is also great for photographing and landscape or building during the day.The mount is metal and the lens feels heavy and sturdy. It is a fully manual lens though as there are no electronic contacts on the mount to share information with the camera body.I am very happy with the quality of this lens and the price I paid for it.

Great wide lens for the price! It is completely manual, so it reminds me of the old days, with nothing “auto”, Great feel, and it looks high quality, you won’t get the sharpest of images, but for the average amateur photographer is just fine.

I bought this for my Canon 70D specifically for northern lights and nightscape photography and for the price this lens is outstanding. Unfortunately it’s manual focus but for my purposes all I do is crank it all the way to infinity and it takes consistently amazing pictures.

Fantastic, sharp lens for what it’s meant for, that is landscapes/nightscapes/wide spaces on a tripod. It’s not ideal for walking around, because of the manual focus. However, this just means it takes a few extra seconds to get your shot right. The manual aperture control is actually not a problem at all, as you can just set your camera to aperture priority and shoot away. This lens does not communicate with your camera at all. There are no pins for that, and it is basically just a piece of glass that your camera looks through.About the manual focus, if you switch to live view and zoom in, it is not difficult to get an in focus shot. The numbers on the focus ring are off, in that essentially for anything ~25ft away and farther you just set the ring to infinity. This is a very fast and sharp lens. On a crop frame camera I can’t notice much distortion, if any. On a full frame this lens is so incredibly wide, and it turns into a proper fisheye. Little chromatic aberration.Very good for starscapes, startrails, night photography in general. I bought it at $323 and it was very worth it. I would absolutely recommend this lens.

Manual focus!! HDR special! Wide wide wide. Nothing comes close to this when using it on a full frame body. If you like to “go big” and don’t have stupid money to spend, this (with the AR chip for auto bracketing) lens if for you. I do HDR real estate photography and HDR landscapes. You will not beat the value.I use live view for focusing and standard view for snapping. The picture I am attaching is a capture from an upload, but the wideness gets the point across.

Most people, including myself, misunderstand this lens at first. Those of us used to using autofocus will look through the viewfinder and find it difficult to pinpoint focus exactly and complain that focusing is an issue. However, it is not. Once you (optional) calibrate the infinity focus at the L mark left of the infinity mark, you can literlaly set the focus anywhere between 3 feet and between 10 feet and infinity and everything from 2-5 feet out to infinity will be in focus. I don’t focus this lens. Once I learned about hyperfocal distances, etc. I simply set mine at 10 feet, f5.6 for landscapes (the sharpest setting for this lens) and walk around and shoot. Its a no brainer lens that is razor sharp and produces amazing images. For anything inside of a few feet, I use live view and magnification to compose the shot or use the AE confirm chip.If you don’t understand these things, as I once did not, the lens frustrates you at first.Having AE confirmation chip really does nothing for you because it will light up from 3 feet to infinity most times, however, being able to adjust the aperture electronically is why I bought this version. This lens is now glued to my camera for anything involving tight spaces, interiors, forests etc.

Incredible value for money, the lens is all manual and that takes some getting used to…however, most definitely worth the effort. The distortion that is inevitable with a lens like this, can be fixed up in Lightroom..and by simply being aware of the small areas of your photo that will be distorted, for me it’s been all about making sure you don’t stick any faces in those areas. The lens has not come off my Canon 6D yet, it’s been so much fun shooting with it! I’ve added a photo that gives you a good idea of what you can achieve, and also what happens on the edges of the frame (see my dog). Overall, highly recommend this lens, what you lose with exif data and in camera adjustments (to some extent) you gain in other areas…and really, any competition to this lens is at least twice the price…

Primary use is for real estate photography (need for tight spaces like a bathroom) Crystal clear, I don’t notice any vignetting and any barreling/distortion can be corrected in PS or with “PT Lens” software (cost is around $25…see photos of before and after correction) Bought the “clicked”aperture version first but ended up returning for the “de-clicked” and intend to use for video too. Versatile and well worth the space in my bag.

Bought used, couldn’t even tell the lens had been touched before! Amazing condition and a hell of a deal. Highly recommend buying used. Took these photos in Salida CO. 10” timer with 20” exposure set at 6400 ISO F2.8 focus set to infinity. Crisp as hell, used this lens for Real Estate photo gigs as well. GET THIS LENS. You will not regret it if you’re a seasoned photographer that can shoot full manual.
