Exclusive Polk Power Port for Effortless Bass

Power Port is a Polk-patented design that smoothly transitions the air flow from the speaker’s port into your listening area. It also extends the overall bass port, providing greater surface area to eliminate turbulence and distortion for louder, deeper, more musical bass impact. On average, Power Port provides 3dB louder bass output than conventional ported loudspeakers.

Built for Pure Sound

Gold-plated five-way binding posts ensure the most direct, efficient, and lossless connection possible. Strong, rigid and acoustically inert enclosure that reduces unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. Non-resonant, critically damped Medite MDF construction ensures low distortion for a more lifelike sound. Plus, the ES20’s anti-diffraction, magnetic grille minimizes sonic interference.

Five Decades of Speaker Engineering

The Signature Elite Series is the culmination of five decades of Polk’s premium speaker engineering (Est. 1972) and were designed at our original facility outside of Baltimore, MD. We rely on our patented Dynamic Balance Array process to eliminate electro-acoustic and mechanical issues before they become a part of the finished speaker. We’re so confident of this process, that we back the Signature Elite ES20 with a limited five-year to ensure you years of listening pleasure.

Polk is well-known for their quality products, for many, many years. I was trying to decide between these and the ES15’s and when the box arrived I immediately laughed that I should have sized down.I could have verified the dimensions, but I was really looking at the difference in driver/speaker size. That aside, these things sound amazing. I have them running off of a Marantz 2235B, using the AUX input, coming out of my PC audio running Spotify and it sounds great. Loud, crisp, good mids and lows; excellent for any genre if you can adjust your EQ at all.

These speakers rock with authoritative sound. Excellent separation of all instruments and voice. The bass is very tight and strong. I am a life long audio videophile and these have some of the best sound presentation of many speakers, until of course, you start spending about 3 or 4 thousand per speaker. These puppies are an excellent choice.

I originally purchased a set of the signature S 15 speakers for my front left and right channels from Best Buy. They are great quality and produce wonderful sound. It wasn’t until later that I came across the advertisement for the S 20s here on amazon. I was curious to see how much of an improvement the S 20s would be over the 15‘s. Again, the S 15‘s are excellent speakers, so I was expecting a modest improvement in sound quality from the step up S 20s.The first thing I noticed when I got these puppies in was the size, these are very large bookshelf speakers, considerably larger than the S 15’s. It’s one thing to read the dimensions for the S 20s on paper but quite another to actually see and lift them. They are big. As I suspected the sound was improved over the S 15’s, However, the improvement was much greater than I had expected. These speakers produce truly quality sound, in fact I would say they are the best sounding speakers I’ve ever owned. The tweeters produce crisp detailed highs, while the woofer puts out bold and clear mids and lows. The S 20s have some serious bass. Way more than I expected! They sound great even without a sub woofer. I found this to be the case with both movies and music. I have now moved the S 15’s to be my right and left surround channels. I’ve also purchased a set of the S 10s for my back surrounds channels and an S 35 center chanel speaker. They all sound fantastic together. I really can’t praise the speakers enough. The build quality of the speaker cabinets is also excellent, when I play them loud I can touch them and feel no vibration. The whole American Hi-Fi Signature series of speakers is amazing. If you’re not familiar with Polk Audio, they specialize in making high-quality speakers in the mid-price range. Dollar for dollar you cannot beat there quality. For those like me, with high end taste, but an average guys wallet, Polk is the way to go.

I’ve just recently upgraded my surround sound system with a new receiver so that I could enjoy Atmos surround. I had previously upgraded my front left and right channel speakers to Elac Uni-fi UB5s. These are a decent speaker but do require quite a bit of power to fully realize their potential. At any rate the receiver that I “upgraded” to is down about 30 watts per channel compared to the Denon AVR-3805 that it replaced. I find the Polks to be more than equal to the sonic capabilities of the Elacs without the need for power. The Polks also are a good match to the Elac Uni-fi 2.0 UC52 center channel and the Polk FX/I A4 and FX/I A6 surrounds. The entire system is light and airy in presentation with both music and video sound tracks. An SVS 1646pci along with an Infinity R12 take care of the subwoofer requirements.

Wow, these speakers are great. Also, these speakers are huge! As I was researching these speakers I realized there really isn’t that much out there in the way of info on these speakers as far as real world use. Tech specs are easy enough to find, but not a whole lot of real world use scenarios. These spearkers are huge for “bookshelf” style speakers. The plus side is though, is that they sound great. I ran them without my sub for a little bit just to get an idea of the low end on these things and wow, it’s pretty impressive. That being said, in conjucntion with my sub, and the S35 center channel, these speakers make quite an impressive showing. Everything sounds crystal clear and I am definately noticeing more details in my sound scape while listening to music or watching movies. I’m upgrading from the Energy Take Classic speakers, which sounded fine, but in comparison to these, I now think sound a bit muddy. It’s a definate and noticable upgrade immediately. Great speakers, and I scored mine for $170 bucks as an Amazon warehouse returned item, described as “Used – Very Good”, but they look brand new to me. Not a single scratch or mark on them. I’m blown away still at the deal I got. Even at full price, these would be worth it though in my opinion.

These speakers, the Fluance RT85 turntable, and the Yamaha TSR-700 is my dream system. They sound amazing together. Just make sure you give it a couple of weeks to let your ears adjust to the sound and break in the speakers a little. Learn about and spend time tweaking the settings of your equipment; it makes all the difference in the world.

Powered by a Yamaha R-S202. After playing for 20 or 30 hours, the bass really opened up! Bass and treble are both set flat on the receiver and they sound just perfect! Records sound great, as well as streaming. I love em!!

Other reviewers correctly called these speakers “analytical” or “accurate”. They are very much like a studio monitor speaker in the sense that it reproduces whatever is on the recording. If the recording has “stupid”amounts of bass that’s what you’ll get out of these. Very clear and defined. They also have a way of minimizing any harshness in the recording. Listening to old dub reggae with spitty drum high hats andother recordings with enhanced treble or even distortion, these speakers have away of mellowing out the harshness but still give you plenty of high end. They are defiantly not bright sounding. Very even keeled.

Bought these speakers for our master bedroom system. Powered by Marantz 7009. They produce beautiful sound way above their price range. Yes, they are too big to be considered shelf speakers, could be used as primary mid-size on stands… But I already have Martin Logans in the main room, so no need, while they are perfect for a smaller room. You totally don’t need a sub with these… They look great too. No reason to spend thousands on B&W, etc…

Ok; first of all, these are not bookshelf speakers. I don’t know what kind of giant medieval tomes they’re reading at Polk, but these won’t fit on any of my bookshelves, not even remotely. I had to put them on stands. That being said; wooooow. These don’t *quite* have the warmth and musicality of say a Dynaudio (of which I own 2 pairs) costing 5 and 10 times as much, but they’re pretty close.Extremely detailed. Maybe bordering on analytical? Every time I listen to these I remark on the detail. I think that the somewhat analytical sound makes them great for either music or movies. The right amp would warm these right up.I’m using them in my bedroom for digital music. I’m driving them with a 50WPC AudioSource dedicated power amp, fed by a BlueSound Node 2i. All together it sounds absolutely incredible in a 13×13 bedroom with 12’ ceilings. Even at only 50WPC these can easily get party loud. (Max on the power amp and 2/3 on the Node is jazz club loud in that space.)Bass extension is there in spades w/o getting at all flabby or muddy. High-end really adds presence in vocals and the hi-hats are right in the room with you.If you need a great sounding pair of passive speakers, especially to do double duty as TV and HiFi speakers, and have a place to put them, I would very highly recommend them.
