Kay P –
I’ve been battling a horrible flea infestation for over a month now. I bathe my cat and dog every other day with Dawn dish soap and their regular shampoos (Wahl for my dog and Furminator for my cat) and even took them to the groomers for a flea bath. I applied topical medication on each of them (Frontline for my dog and Advantage II for my cat). I’ve vacuumed, mopped, sprayed insecticide and IGR, and laundered everything almost daily, but it seems as though I’ve been fighting a losing battle. Despite everything, I would still find dozens of fleas on their bodies (immediately after their baths), and my poor pets are scratching themselves raw. I’m sure all the baths and chemicals are drying out their skin too (they certainly are for my hands!).I have to say this shampoo was a nice relief for my pets. I soaped up my pets for 5 minutes with Dawn dish soap and rinsed. Then I repeated with the Adams shampoo (5 minute lather and rinse thoroughly). The shampoo had a really nice lather. I followed directions and only used 3 tablespoons of shampoo for my 15lb dog and 2 tablespoons for my cat. I thought the volume of shampoo would not be enough but the shampoo was so thick, that it was more than sufficient. Fleas floated away with the rinse. The smell has a soft, powder scent which reminds me of the scent of the groomer’s regular shampoo. After rinsing, there was almost a greasy residue on their fur, which I’m sure is soothing for their dry skin.***UPDATE (3 weeks later): I’ve been solely using this shampoo now, and I have been regularly giving my pets weekly baths (with a 5-minute soak). A month has passed, so I reapplied the same brand of topical anti-flea/tick medicine. My dog has had the topical on for about 1 week and my cat for only 48hours. I just gave them a third bath with the Adams shampoo and I only found about 5-6 fleas on each of them. Every week I bathe my pets, the water runs red from all the flea dirt on them, but this time the water was clear! There has been minimal itching and scratching during the week, so I know the shampoo is helping. An added benefit is that their coats look so much healthier and softer. My white dog’s coat is bright and white. The powder smell lasts through the week too, so they continue smelling nice, well past the bath. I cut down vacuuming and laundering their bedding to 1x/week because the cleaning has been overwhelming. The temperature has dropped this week to below freezing and the gas heat has been on. I know humidity impacts the growth of fleas, so I’m not sure if one particular thing or the combination of everything has been making the difference, but what matters is that the flea count is dwindling…finally!I would highly recommend this shampoo, but I suggest using gloves because it can be very drying on the hands. Very few products are both cat and dog friendly too, so that is an added benefit when you have both.***UPDATE (4 months later): So fleas are officially gone! I believe they’ve been gone since late December/early January. After the last update, I gradually reduced the baths to every other week and kept my pets updated on their monthly flea/tick medication. As I said before, I’m not sure what exactly did the trick but I believe this shampoo was a major contributor to the solution! I actually stocked up on this shampoo because my husband and I love it so much!***UPDATE (7 months later): It’s been well past the scourge of fleas in our home (THANK GOODNESS), but I just wanted to rave about this product some more. I bathed my my long-haired Persian cat with this shampoo recently and he still smells great- weeks later! Also, I love how it conditions his fur. I didn’t even use conditioner and his fur is full, soft, and mat free!

So I am writing this review immediately after bathing my dogs because that’s just how happy I am! I have 3 dogs,2 cocker spaniels & a pit bull. The small dogs were very easy to lather up because they are long haired ,but my pit was more work because she has short hair and it’s very dry. I can pour water on her coat and you can see it disappear. Nonetheless as I began to lather each dog I could see the fleas dying. I wet each dog without submerging them in water and lathered their coats massaging from the head all the way to their tails including all fours and their chest and tummy areas too. I opted to do each for about 20 mins, maybe 30 for the big dog (very time consuming and back achy). Washed them with warm water thoroughly several times for each one as any remaining residue could irritate their skin. There were so many dead fleas in total plus I had to pick dead ones off each dog also. I dried them and put them back in their individual cages. I am sitting here watching them as I type and they are so comfortable and itch free! I’m so happy and emotional to see them at peace like this. In compliance with using this shampoo I also bought the Diatomaceous Earth and applied it to the baseboards ,crevices and 2 carpeted bedrooms. I let that sit for about an hour and vacuumed then attached the tool to the hose and hit all the corners. Very time consuming, but absolutely worth it all! Please buy!

I read the reviews before I bought this Adams Plus flea and tick shampoo. There were two comments that worried me – some said the smell is so bad and others mentioned seizure or some pet reaction after bathing their pet with this shampoo. I just gave our 4 cats a bath today and happy to share that the shampoo does have a smell but it’s a “clean” smell, not overpowering at all and our cats did not have any bad reaction to it. I used the cap of the shampoo to “measure” how much to use. I used about 2 capfuls per cat (our cats are all at least 9 lbs), worked it into a lather and left on for 3-5 mins per direction on the bottle then rinsed. Our cats’ fur feel soft and smell good.

I was highly skeptical givenA. This is just shampooB. Most of the reviews mentioned fleas and not ticksC. My dog was FULL of ticks… I mean at least 15-20 that I could see.I would have to warn you, that after using this shampoo, keep your dog OUTSIDE for 24-48 hours. I did not. In fact, I came home to a plethora of dead ticks in my living room. Dead ticks EVERYWHERE. I counted at least 10 little ones.. and the big ones… dear god… my dog found them before i could and burst them… leaving blood everywhere. That day will forever be known as the Tick Massacre of 2016.

My cats have been infested with fleas for the past year. I have tried everything from boric acid to diatomaceous earth, flea collars and cheap flea drops to bathing them every few days in dawn dish soap and vacuuming twice to three times a day, and NOTHING worked. My friend recommended this shampoo, and at this point one of my cats had developed a severe allergic reaction to the fleas and all I could do was cry because I couldn’t help him. He looked – quite frankly – like he had been thrown into a dog pit. When my friend told me about this I immediately bought it. At this point I was willing to try anything and I am SO glad I did.No, it did not cure our flea problem. I didn’t expect it to. What it DID do, though, was give my cats some relief from the constant biting and itching. It helped some sores on my allergic cat to heal (very quickly I might add, I was incredibly surprised at how fast they healed) and he was able to grow some of his fur back. After his baths he’d have a few hours of total comfort and then he’d scratch the rest of the day, but he was actually able to rest for a while. And as for the actual effectiveness of the product, hundreds of dead fleas sunk to the bottom of the tub, and hundreds more came off with the flea comb. When I bathed my cats, I turned on some music and scrubbed them for 3 songs, roughly 10-15 minutes depending on the songs playing. Then I would thoroughly comb the cats and rinse the fleas into the bath water since it was full of soap at that time and the living fleas would inevitably drown. After they were combed I would drain the water and rinse them off – thoroughly, I didn’t want them to be able ingest enough of the soap to get sick.At first I was startled because I thought one of my cats was bleeding. There was blood dissolving into the water and I thought he had some sores that the soap had irritated and caused to bleed. I later found out this was just the built up flea dirt on his back.Neither of my cats had any adverse reactions to this shampoo, to my relief. Even my sensitive cat reacted well; his red, irritated skin calmed to a slight pink, which was the opposite of what I expected it to do.This is not a preventative and will only kill the fleas that are currently on your animals. With that in mind, when I was finally able to get them some good flea drops, I bathed them with this beforehand and let them dry completely. It combined with the flea drops seems to have done the trick, though my house is still infested and so I will continue vacuuming and treating the house.I am happy to say that the combination of the shampoo and flea drops have left my cat – for the first time in little over a year – flea free.It feels so good to see him laying comfortably without scratching, and even better to comb him and have NO fleas on the comb.Yes, YES I would recommend this to anyone. And I will never go without it ever again.

I have used this pet shampoo on my dogs for decades. It kills fleas if, after lathering, you let the suds set on your pet for at least 10 minutes. The fleas will come out of hiding to the surface and you will see how many are really there, which can be helpful during warm months. The shampoo is also blue, so the blueing dye really brightens white fur and makes your pet’s fur glisten! This is also my favorite smelling pet shampoo and if we are traveling with our pets we bathe them with this shampoo before we are in the car with them for hours. It helps us in tight travel spaces.I have used many other shampoos and this one continues to be my combo- favorite because of having benefits from:1) flea control,2) clean scent, and3) whiteness brightening.

Note: I first administered a 24-hr generic flea pill from another website. I waited to bathe my cat until the pill started working and she was desperate to get the dying fleas off of her! My main use for this shampoo was to kill eggs/larvae and make sure the adult fleas were truly killed in case the pill wasn’t enough. Didn’t hurt to wash out all the flea dirt, too.First time purchasing this product. I tried a brand from WalMart first and it worked okay, but the infestation was getting worse and I knew my adult female cat (average weight, short hair) needed more help. A little bit goes a long way compared to the other brand I bought. It’s a thick formula, which I liked a lot. I only had to reach for the bottle 3 times: one long line down the spine, and two small amounts in my hands to make sure I got the paws and underbelly areas really well (the fleas kept hiding there). I drained the tub and rubbed it into her fur for 5 minutes before rinsing. It’s important to not let the pet sit in water while the soap does its job. Fleas will move to the legs and the product won’t get to do it’s job since it’s already being rinsed off in the tub. Same for tails! As I was rubbing her dry, I noticed a lot of fleas still in her fur (she has a lot of white patches). I was worried it hadn’t worked well BUT… they were all dead! I couldn’t believe how many had been on her! As her fur dried and she groomed herself in my leather office chair, I saw dead fleas just falling off of her. She spent the next 10 hours finally getting some good sleep and I’ve only seen one flea on her nose since then, which could have recently hatched on our carpet and hopped onto her.Final thoughts: STRONG formula, definitely wouldn’t use it more than once a week (twice if I was desperate). It’s very drying so the pet will need time between washes to allow their nature skin oil to build up again. These skin oils protect your pet’s skin from irritation and harsh chemicals. Works well and this bottle will last a good while. Good bang for your buck!

I have used this product for years and it is hands down the best shampoo for removing heavy flea infestations from cats and dogs. This shampoo kills fleas AND their eggs which makes it super effective at preventing reinfestation while environmental conditions are changed/managed. I have an indoor cat that I rescued as a kitten from the streets many years ago after her mother was trapped by the city. This is the shampoo I used to get rid of her flea and tick infestation when I found her. When I travel for work I am usually gone for months at a time. I leave my cat with my mom because she has a big backyard and my cat can go outside and explore. By the time I get back from my trip she usually has a pretty bad infestation because I do not normally treat her with any chemicals for fleas because she is an indoor cat. When I take her home from my mom’s I give her a bath with this shampoo and all of the fleas start jumping off her and dying. Occasionally I will give her a second bath a few days later if I find more living fleas, especially if I’ve taken all the other flea precautions, just to make sure she does not get reinfested. I have tried many other products from time to time but I’ve always ended up choosing this Adams shampoo because it produces consistent results. It has real chemicals, real pesticides in it, so if you are not keen on that then this product is not for you. I appreciate natural alternatives, but if you need something that really works to kill fleas and prevent reinfestation, this is EXACTLY what you want. This shampoo once to stop infestation + program once per month + a natural repellent spray once per week OR Advantage II once per month = flea free dogs and cats.

The media could not be loaded. I was a little ticked off “no pun intended” after bringing my sweet baby girl home from an animal rescue and to discover she was infested with fleas.Came on Amazon right away and found this shampoo, I read most of the reviews and was soooo nervous using this as I did not want my little girl to die with all these horrible stories being told here. However I took the chance as the number of good reviews outweigh the negative ones, I want to believe those incidents were isolated.Anyways…… these photos are form the 2nd treatment as I forgot to take pics after the first treatment. Let me tell you the first day I had used this shampoo when I woke up the next day my bed was blanketed by dead fleas. This paper towel of fleas is nothing compared to the first treatment. Hopefully this is the last treatment of these pesky annoying critters that caused my little pumpkin so much headache and sleepless nights scratching and biting herself. Good riddance!!!!Now she’s seems happier!!! No moreNibbling her back and tail and scratching behind her ears.Oh and the shampoo smells GREAT! It reminds meOf those Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo that’s powdery and her coat is so smooth! I’m 100% pleased and happy I took a chance with this shampoo.

The grass where we live is INFESTED with fleas. The minute my dog steps outside they are literally all over her. I thought she was safe with her monthly flea treatment, but that doesn’t stop them from hitching a ride back to your house. One evening as we were snuggling on the couch, I noticed black dots on her fur. Sure enough — fleas. Ugh. Shortly after, we had a BAD indoor flea infestation. We tried everything: Sprays, bombs, anti-this-and-that, and even tried new flea treatment for her. Nothing worked.I was at my wits’ end. I went online and read the reviews about this shampoo and decided to give it a shot. My dog has short hair and weighs about 22 pounds. I first gave her a good rinse and made sure her coat was thoroughly soaked. I poured about a half-dollar size amount into my palm and started at the base of her neck and worked my way back to her tail and hind quarters. I left it on for about 4-5 mins. The shampoo has a nice, warm, subtle soft and clean fragrance. It left her coat feeling very clean and smelling great even days later.By the third day, I saw about 5-6 fleas on her. I was disheartened :( Another failed attempt. I quickly took her to the tub to give her a wash and rinse with her regular shampoo. As I was about to turn the water on, I noticed little black specks by her feet. I thought it was dirt. They were fleas! DEAD fleas! I looked her over and more came falling off, landing dead at her feet. It was gross but so amazing. While I was ecstatic at the results, it also reminded me to be cautious when using this shampoo. A little bit goes a long way, especially with a mild to medium infestation. No new flea bites in the last 3 days! I’m hoping it continues, thanks to this shampoo!
