Did I say I loved this camera? Well I do. I love this camera. When it first arrived I was a little disappointed that it is a little bulkier than my previous cameras. I’ve purchased several generations of the Panasonic ZS series and have loved every one. Well, I was tired of buying refurbs and decided to treat myself to a brand new model, with all the bells and whistles. This was the first camera I’ve had without GPS built in. Initially I was disappointed that I couldn’t get one with it, but connecting it with the cell phone’s GPS was easy. On average it’s taken about 13 seconds to lock in, the longest was maybe 20 seconds. I was concerned about when I travel abroad if it would work, but from what I’ve read, you bring your cell phone and even if you don’t have phone or internet service, our US gov’t tax dollars provide us with free satellite connections all over the planet. I haven’t had the opportunity to test this for myself, but there are a few YouTubers who have confirmed it. ANYWAY this thing takes amazing pictures. Granted, all digital cameras have their faults when it comes to focus and lighting issues, but for the most part this thing works like a champ and on rare occasions have I run into any of those problems. The screen is crisp and flips up for selfies, and includes a 4-3-2-1 countdown so you can smile and look ready and natural for the shot. This also worked well when I had to use a mini tripod for a group photo and it ‘just’ gave me enough time to jump in – although the outtakes are pretty funny with my hair flying in the air as I hadn’t quite gotten where I needed to be. And even THOSE pictures are CRISP.It is such a pleasure to take a Panoramic shot and have all the images stitched right on the camera rather than bringing it home and doing it on the computer. How nice to see it instantly to ensure you’ve captured everything you wanted. I have yet to try it but am anxious to dabble with the burst feature along with another ‘stitching’ program which takes several photos you’ve chosen (out of up to 30[?]) and putting them together to show the object-in-motion in a series of positions, while everything else stays the same. THIS you have to use software for, but it’s going to be great, I know it.SUMMARY: The camera is great. As far as point-and-shoot cameras go, it is a terrific choice with lots of cool features. It’s a little too big to fit in an average sized pocket but if you wear cargo pants, you can probably carry it in there. I chose to get a good case with a strap as I decided that most of the time I KNOW when I’ll be taking pictures, and will want it out and ready anyway. The other reason is that these cameras are notorious for getting dust in, behind the lens and will need it cleaned professionally (trust me – as careful as I was it was still a disaster doing it myself). The GPS will work anywhere and tag all your photos accordingly. Panoramic shots, you see in an instant! Burst is terrific too, and the app and/or software will help to make some even more interesting pictures for you to share. You want this camera. I have absolutely NO buyer’s remorse.

Short review for the ZS70 here, my full review shortly will be published on my blog (google camera name and photographic-central). Quick rant/explanation: I’m giving it 5 stars for two reasons- One, I can’t choose 4.5, and two, there were a couple one star reviews here when either the camera wasn’t released yet or there was obvious user error. To me, those aren’t valid reviews so the extra half point helps to mitigate them (since Amazon hasn’t removed the reviews, and probably won’t I’m doing my part to keep things fair). Moving on…Review: There simply aren’t any decent pocket-able super zoom cameras on the market that shoot raw. As a professional and enthusiast, I demand raw. I suggest readers who don’t use raw learn how to so that they can get the most out of the TZ70. This camera has a very small sensor, but, it is a modern BSI CMOS, which means it’s very efficient for the size of its pixels. As long as you have reasonable expectations from a sensor this size, it will probably exceed those expectations. Image quality from raw is much better than I anticipated. The lens is very sharp through the range (just don’t go over f5.6 if you can avoid it, natural diffraction kicks in). Therefore the sensor and lens combo out perform a camera of this class. Even dynamic range is better than I could have possibly thought. Credit to technology moving on.When you factor in all its features (a vast array from 4k video to wireless to time lapse video), it’s top notch design aesthetics (minimalist, classy, utilitarian), excellent build and ergonomics, this camera is a powerhouse of a pocketable “all in one” compact. My only wish is that the lens were slightly brighter (max aperture through the range), but otherwise it’s a camera in its class of sensor size that shadows all others. At first I dismissed the ZS70 because of its packed tiny sensor, but I was shocked and pleasantly surprised looking at the image quality in raw. 1″ sized sensors are still going to outperform it mind you, but this sensor is much better than you might think. Once you get it set up, it’s a joy to shoot with. That lens is so versatile for all kinds of snapshot photography- from landscapes to macros, action shots to long range stills or portraits. Its fast focusing so even actions shots are within reach.Overall the ZS70 is everything you need in a little point n shoot, and nothing you don’t. The controls on the exterior are plenty and holding it is quite lovely for one handed shooting- it’s slightly larger, thicker, and heavier than the ZS50/60 but that is a good thing for a camera with such a long zoom. It makes a more stable platform when you are shooting at full telephoto. It has just the right heft to it for a camera of its size and type, welcome if you ask me. The five axis stabilization helps tremendously to keep blur at bay. Most of the controls are customizeable. The LCD is helpful for waist level shots and acts as a sort of angle bi-pod when you place the camera down for more stable shots (if you don’t have a tripod for example). The EVF is welcome and usable, and helps in bright light and for extra stability when you are looking through it with the camera pressed to your eye/face.I cannot get over how lovely its designed- all sides are nice n flat, nothing protrudes to snag, there’s no obnoxious advertising of features on the camera itself, and everything appears proportionate and cleanly organized. The front and rear grips are improved and excellent. The design looks very Leica-esque – minimalist and beautiful. Great choice in exterior materials, the blend of flat fleck paint and satin metal. The black and silver versions are both excellent and classy. If you print, you can easily make lovely prints to 13×19″, and if you have some talent or stack your raw images, you can raise that number substantially (30×40″ perhaps!). To me this camera is the sleeper compact out there right now. And it’s likely to get more reviews and fans as a result.Overall the ZS70 is the best of the newer ZS series (or TZ series if outside the USA) cameras. It’s classy, versatile, discreet, minimalist, and utilitarian. I wish more cameras were designed like this. Keep it up Panasonic!Edit: My full review is now up on photographic-central blogspot dot com :)

After 3 months, I’m still delighted with this camera. As you can see in the photos provided, the Lumix takes detailed zoom photos, far better than was ever possible on my defunct Nikon. The image stabilization works very well. The learning curve for all the features is fairly steep, but it’s possible to take good photos after taking just a couple of hours to learn the basics; after that begin exploring all the possibilities as you become more comfortable with the device. The negatives: There is no GPS, so you have to record where photos were taken…which I do when I download them onto my iPhone; the grip is a bit awkward; and the flash is inconveniently located and easy to block with your fingers. All-in-all, a first rate experience.

Picked up this camera last-minute for the increased zoom (my other point n shoot is a ZS100) to take to a concert. Ended up recording ~70 minutes of video at 1080P and the results are fantastic. I had i.zoom turned on and enjoyed fairly stable close-up zooms of various members of the band from half way across a 30,000 seat arena. Audio and Video are clear and distortion free. I’m AMAZED. As for photography, it’s decent, about the best you’ll get out of a sensor this size. The ZS100 definitely takes sharper pics, but that’s expected out of a sensor 4x the size. Out of the two cameras, I find myself reaching for the ZS70 more than the 100, both are fine examples of 2017 technology packed in a point n shoot case. Would HIGHLY recommend.

I’m a retired professional photographer. I’ve worked full time for Detroit’s 2 major daily newspapers and freelanced for many other clients starting in 1971. My photo schooling at CCS was done with my manual camera, a Nikon FTN, and I souped B&W film) as I shot for a weekly newspaper group. My very last personal camera purchase before this LUMIX was the feature-rich Nikon D800. With this LUMIX there are tons of features to learn. It’s amazing what it can do. It will address everyone’s skill level, from 1 simple point and shoot setting to the ability to set shutter speeds, aperture settings, flash fill… it goes on and on as you can read in the description. There is lots to learn! It has a nice zoom lens on it crafted by Leica that will reach way out, and it still maintains a very sharp image. I’m not fully impressed with the auto focus just yet, but, I’m still learning the features. When I want to make a setting like I did with my old gear, it does it! I notice with the sun at your back it will flatten out the screen viewer image, but it then has an eyepiece to look thru. Lumix seems have all their bases covered. All of this is in a little camera that will fit in your pants pocket. The 2 above photos were taken using the program (P) setting. The rugged northern Michigan Lake Huron shoreline was shot at slightly wide angle, and the seagull was zoomed in all the way to full zoom from a good distance. You can see the detail in the Gull’s eye. I’m enjoying the Leica glass!

I’ve worked with several Panasonic/Luminary cameras, including the Gx8. I wanted a very small piece of equipment and was prepared for whatever limitations it might come with. Therefore I was shocked at there being few if any shortcomings. It has everything I needed, but in a tiny package. Cannot recommend highly enough.

This is a nice camera that I am still learning, and there are quite a few things to learn if you are coming from a point and shoot. Still has some neat tricks even for the seasoned photographer coming from the dSLR side as well. What I like:- Image quality- Large zoom (30x) – OPTICAL- Full manual control- Viewfinder (this is increasingly more difficult to come by in the point and shoot market)- Full program mode to take the thinking out of it when in a hurry- Many various ease of use photographic capture features- Connectivity options (xfer, remote shutter control)What I do not like:- Odd placement of flash (on opposite side of camera to what is ‘normal’) and just below where you naturally hold the camera. Still not used to it after nearly 4 months. My fingers still get in the way and most people that I hand over the camera to in order to take a picture get stumped on it as well. Seems odd and can get annoying, or worse, ruin a good shot opportunity..- Limited F-Stop range (but somewhat to be expected for what this camera is)Overall it is a nice camera that gives a lot for its size.

I’ve had this camera for two weeks and love it. I like the 30X zoom, and the multiple shot capability, the smallish size and most of all the great pictures I get. This is a much better camera than I am a photographer, but it makes me seem better than I am. There are things I don’t care for. It can be hard to focus. It could fit better in your hand. But at the price I don’t see how you could get a better camera.

The image quality from this camera is incredible! Gave this to my wife for Christmas and it replaced an older TZ-4 model Panasonic (she loved it for a long time). The ZS70S is a real step up. Beautiful photos.Pros: Easy to use Small footprint Excellent photo quality Quite a few settingsCon: If you can call it a con, there is a learning curve to all the new features of this camera. Worth the time and effort

The media could not be loaded.  My first Panasonic camera. Purchased this for the zoom, portability and video capabilities. Does fit in pants pocket, but is heavier and larger than I expected. I posted size comparisons with other cameras I own. Very fun camera to have with me all day. Start up is fast. Zooming in and out is fast as well. The lense is silent while zooming. Which is great when shooting video. The lenses I have for my Nikon D5500 are very noisy and constantly re-focusing. Althogh, the video quality on my d5500 is excellent. My Canon SL1 Rebel is much better at shooting video than my Nikon. Canon’s STM lenses are extremely quiet. Focusing is much better, too. The zs60 is awesome for video. Even in low light, the zs60 is crisp at 1080p. The 4K video is also a feature I was interested in. Surprising features is the shooting of high speed videos @ 120fps and 240fps. The higher speed will film in 480 resolution, but is still amazing looking. The still picture quality is as expected for the small sensor. Decent pictures, but don’t expect lots of depth to pics. Also, cropping your pics will show all of the noise that the 1/2.3″ sensor has.The zs60 feels solid, and has a good weight to it. The control dial on the top and the back of the camera feel cheap. The control ring feels solid. It can be used for manual focusing or changing aperture or shutter speed. Lots of customizations are a attainable because most of the buttons are programmable. The flash is in a bad spot. I have to make sure that i’m holding the camera a certain way or my middle finger will partially block the flash. Both viewfinders are amazingly sharp. I never thought i would use an EVF style viewfinder, but this camera’s is really nice. It comes in handy if sunlight is extremely bright. The battery seems to have decent life on it. It doesn’t compare to my D5500, but it seems about average. A trick I use to keep the screen from coming on when i don’t want it is too place a finger near the eye sensor next to the EVF. The menu system is responsive and crisp. There are a lot of features packed into this camera. It’ll take a while to try them all out. The artistic filters are excellent. They can turn the otherwise flat pictures into something better.I have shot video in 4k, but I don’t have anything to view them with. So I can’t comment on that. But i have tried the 4K burst mode of photographs. Almost all of the pics from burst mode were grainy. The backgrounds were very mushy looking. I took them when it was cloudy outside, so maybe I would have better results if the sun was out. Still experimenting.Overall, I really enjoy using this camera.Update: I haven’t been able to figure out the Wi-Fi on this camera. It’s confusing.Regarding the pictures I posted, the first one was shot with Artistic Expression filter in the Creative Mode. The second was shot in iA mode. the third and fourth shows the range of the lens. Look in the middle of the parking lot picture. You’ll see the white clock tower. that’s at 24mm. the fourth pic is the clock tower at 720mm. 5th-7th are just size comparisons.{UPDATE: 6-9-2016} Now that I have been using this camera for 2 months, I have discovered that the software works for transferring images to my iPhone and iPad. The camera is also able to connect to wireless itself, but you need a Panasonic account for that. I have not signed up for that.I had stated previously that video in low light was great. I was mistaken. I was taking videos in low light of inanimate objects (candles; electric and real). But I discovered that filming people indoors, even with decent lighting is terrible. This camera excels in the sunlight. Taking video of my daughter’s preschool assembly is pretty much useless. The zs60 smears, blurs and distorts your subjects. I’m still keeping my rating at 5 stars because I haven’t been able to put this camera down. It goes everywhere with me. But certain shooting environments really expose the weaknesses of the 1/2.3″ sensor. But, videos and pics I have taken of the moon are awesome! I now appreciate the quality of video and pics of my APS-C cameras more. The zs60’s size is great. Very small, and that’s the trade off: small camera/sensor, less quality of images. This camera also suffers from rolling shutter, a “jello” effect when shooting video. This does not occur everytime I have shot video, but it is noticible. On a positive note, this camera is an excellent macro shooter! You can get as close as 5cm from your subject! Videos at close range are excellent as well (all with proper lighting). All in all, this camera is extremely fun to use. I uploaded more pics. A moon shot, a macro shot and a hi-speed 120fps hd quality (slo-motion) video.
