    just me

My birds and squirrels LOVE this food. They raid my back yard everyday, all day long. When I first put out my feeders I tried different things to see what the wildlife preferred. Hands down this is the food they want. I gave the Lyric Fruit & Nut High Energy Mix a try but they would not touch the corn in it. I could not stand looking at all that corn sitting in my back yard so I had to pick it up myself. NOT what I had in mind. Went back to the Kaytee Nut & Fruit blend, and it has been a backyard wildlife party ever since. I have found that spreading this on the ground is really the best way to use it in my yard. It cuts down on the squirrels using my open air feeders as a trapeze. Although I have to say they are hilarious to watch swing around on them. I stepped out into the backyard the other day and one the squirrels leisurely made his way up the tree back there. I didn’t think anything of it till I heard this chattering. I looked up and he had made his way out on the limb closest to me and was definitely talking to me. I looked around to see what the problem could be, and saw the food I spread on the ground was gone. So I put some more out and he immediately came down and started eating. I guess I am now fluent in squirrel! It tells you a lot about how much this food is loved. I have also found that sunflower seed kernels are a big hit too. I use them in my feeders. Everybody likes them and they do not leave a mess. The best price I have found on Amazon for them is Lyric Sunflower Kernels in the 25pd bag. You can’t beat the price and you can subscribe and save. The Fruit & Nut can be subscribed to as well. WIN/WIN! Less cost and no lugging bags around. Yahoo!

Birds love this blend no seeds go to waste. I get Cardinals, Blue jays, and many other birds. Including doves.

This brings all (well, a lot) of birds to my yard, as well as several squirrels, and a very shy flying squirrel (late at night). I set this in a feeder, and it was set upon by quite a few finches almost immediately. Now, there are almost always birds feasting on this, so it’s doing exactly what it supposed to do. I use this to lure in birds for wildlife photography, so it’s doing exactly that, and they seem to love it. I will be buying another bag when this one is gone.

Northeast Florida has a wide and varied assortment of birds throughout the year. This food is a little more expensive BUT we get a wide assortment of visitors. BlueJays, cardinals, woodpeckers, finches, gold finches, bluebirds, buntings, and even the morning doves will try to land on the perches to eat. Just a LITTLE less expensive than human trail mix (hahaha), but WELL worth it. HIGHLY recommend a squirrel proof feeder though. The cost of the feeder will be covered quickly by a reduction in food use by the squirrels.

We just set up our bird feeder with this variety and although we don’t have any takers yet, it looks like amazing seed. When we opened it, we were greeted by a wonderful nutty fragrance and we saw a beautiful clean seed. No dust all over everything in the bag which was nice to see. There isn’t any debris from the seeds either which is another plus. Hopefully we will be getting some action at our new feeder soon. It is a cold winter in the North East and I hope we didn’t wait too long to set our feeder up.UPDATE: I had to come back and take away a star. We had a woodpecker come only to go up and down the mesh feeder and then leave. Sad thing is he hasn’t come back! There are no other takers for this blend.UPDATE: The birds are coming now and loving this mix! I’m glad I can get it on S&S! So much fun to watch them enjoy this even with the weather still cold.

Being relatively new to bird feeding I have done a bit of research to find out what would be best for my area. The first choice was a standard mixture of seeds that attracted a few birds but didn’t seem to excite any of them. I decided to look for more exciting feed and this blend sounded interesting. The birds really find it interesting! For an unknown reason we don’t have a lot of birds in this area but I have found that some I hadn’t seen before are drawn to this food. I’m going to need a larger feeder to accommodate the larger birds that would love the nuts and fruits that the smaller birds can’t handle. Now that we’re going into a change in seasons I’m curious to see the summer birds arrive and perhaps a few tourists. This bird feeding/watching business is really fun!

If you are a cardinal lover you will love Kaytee Fruit Nut Blend. We bought this particular Kaytee product based on reviews lauding them for their ability to attract cardinals and those reviews proved to be spot on. But the Fruit Nut Blend has also proved a consistent draw for a whole variety of other birds. We’re not birders ourselves so we can’t identify all the other species but we thoroughly enjoy seeing them flock to our Kaytee-filled bird feeder. I gave only 4 stars for value because the Fruit Nut Blend is expensive. Birds love it, but it ain’t cheap. Highly recommended.

I had about a month of downtime between the end of my fall semester and the start of nursing school. I wasn’t working so I figured “Hey, I’ll feed the birds!” Bad idea. I’m obsessed now. I’ve even named the mourning doves that stop by everyday. I think they’re expecting actually which I’m very excited about. Anyway.. this blend has something for everyone. There are nuts like walnuts, pistachios, peanuts, almonds. Seeds like safflower, black oil, regular sunflower (cracked and whole). There are also some raisins in there and a few other dried fruits. So far I have gotten a ton of different visitors: mourning doves, downy woodpecker, red-bellied woodpecker, cardinals, sparrows, tufted titmice, nuthatches, black birds, blue jays, Carolina wrens, juncos.. it’s been awesome and I know I’m missing some other birds. My husband has even started taking pictures of our visitors so it’s turned into a fun hobby for us.

The birds love this stuff!! I’ve tried plenty of bird seeds, and one day I ran out so I used dried fruit and different seeds from my cabinet. The fruit was always gone first, and I have a squirrel-free feeder (ha ha ha, take that) so I know it’s the birds!! Once I realized that, I went ahead and bought this brand/type of bird seed mix, and it’s brought around more birds than any other I’ve used.
