I started ordering these sunflower seeds to feed to birds several years ago, because they were “cleaner” – fewer twigs, empty hulls, and other inedible material in them – than the birdseed I could buy at the supermarket. The last year or so the quality has been going down, and my last order (Lot No 15 Jun 23 K91/Pack Date 22DEC21/Best Before 15 Jun 23) hit a new low, quality-wise – or new high for the amount of included trash. Rather disappointing. Since I’ve been buying only this product for quite awhile, I don’t know how it compares to others currently only the market.

I tried a few wild bird seed mixes from Walmart and Home Depot before I tried this but none brought as many birds as this did. The birds seem to love it. The downside is, the whole packet is finished in about ten days as the birds lap it up greedily. The quality of the seed is great and look clean and shiny unlike many other store bought ones. I have had quails, finches, chickadees, and many small birds visit the feeder all day.

This is excellent bird seed, and the bird’s definitely love it, so I’m giving it a 5 star rating. That said, I found a bulk 20 pound package of black oil sunflower seed locally for about 1/4 of the cost per pound. Ultimately, I’d say to go ahead and get this if you don’t have black oil sunflower seed available locally… or if you just want to get a small amount to “test drive” this type seed for your birds without having to leave your home. I will say that in my area, the birds love black oil sunflower seeds more than anything else. I primarily use it to feed starlings, though there’s a few other birds mixed in such as jays and doves. A trick I’ve found is to fill up my feeder, and the birds will empty it in 2-3 days. In the process, they will knock a lot of uneaten seeds to the ground under the feeder, so I’ll leave the feeder empty for at least a day to force the birds to clean up the seeds off the ground. This helps to keep my costs down, I don’t get any stray seedlings showing up in my lawn that I don’t want, and it hasn’t caused me to lose any “customers” by making them clean up their own mess.

I live in nyc and finally moved to an apartment with..wait for it… TREES. The last tenant had a bird feeder, I bought this bird seed and am obsessed with watching the birds come to it. They love this stuff. Unfortunately our neighbor “doesn’t like the sound of birds” and is upset about it. Birds love this bird seed. My neighbor does not. Someone please help me to not buy 800 more bird feeders in retaliation.

I’ve never had a bird feeder before. I purchased this because it was recommended with the feeder that I bought. The birds love it! We were surprised at the wide variety of birds gathering food.negatives:I should have gotten a bigger feeder. The birds are emptying it way too quick. My cats are going crazy wanting to get to the birds. The birds will sit on top of the catio before approaching the feeder. I got the feeder because watching birds is supposed to be good for cats. Seems a bit more like torture but the cats are very active watching the birds. This may cause the birds to have a weight problem.I found 20 pounds for $20 elsewhere, but I haven’t been able to find this food again at that price. Our birds don’t go for other sunflower seed like they did this one, so changed this back to 5 stars. I hope it comes back in stock soon.

I live in Phoenix, and the birds eat about 1 pound of this in less than one day. I get a huge variety of birds at my feeder — sometimes 10 or more birds jockeying for access to the feeder.

Bird seed on Amazon is WAY overpriced for the quality, but if you must buy from here, these are the ones you want. My birds LOVE them. I’m in SoCal and I’ve had house and Cassin’s finches, goldfinches, mourning and European collared doves, black-headed grosbeaks, European and white-crowned sparrows, and others visit regularly. The shells are messy, but I don’t care; they make great fertilizer. Love the seeds; don’t super love the price.

I bought these to put into the outside feeders for the birds and squirrels. The wildlife went crazy for it. Out of curiosity, I planted some to test their ‘freshness’ and got about 85% germination rate and they grew into some nice 3-4 foot plants. Not bad at all considering that these are not meant to be planted. We will definitely buy more to feed AND to put in the garden!

Please see photo. I take an enormous amount of pride, and put in a lot of work to keep my flower bed well maintained and looking good. I cannot understand why this driver would elect to place a box full of bird seed, two bags of potting soil and other misc. items on top of my Wandering Jew ivy. This box was very heavy and damaged the ivy to the point of having to be removed where the box laid.
