Product Description

AUDIOENGINE IS AN INDEPENDENT SPEAKER COMPANY BASED IN AUSTIN, TX.

In 2005 Audioengine was founded with a simple goal: Build a speaker that sounds great, is easy to set up and use, and that makes people want to listen to music every day.

Audioengine’s core products are powered speakers; all-in-one music systems which allow you to connect all your devices wirelessly (or wired) for great stereo sound. They started with just one powered speaker, the A5; simple and beautiful, yet versatile enough to be used in your workspace as computer speakers, on stands in your living room, or in a home theater setup.

But the Audioengine team wanted to offer even more for their customers. After years of hard work, the versatility of their products was pushed even further by offering a number of add-on audio products that can be used with existing music systems.

Their passion is to help people hear all their favorite songs as they were meant to be heard and to discover new music and appreciate it with the highest sound quality. And they’re doing exactly what they had planned, which is to change the way people listen to music. Audioengine is now proud to offer a complete line of products that bring the sound quality of professional studio monitors right into your living room, without the inconvenience of multi-device stereo receivers or big clunky passive speakers.

Bought these for my bedroom system. The goal was to find an attractive and great sounding bluetooth active speakers to replace a mediocre Bose Wave Radio 10+ years old.My initial reaction when paired with an Ipad and S21+ was nice but not a game changer. I decided to bypass the built in bluetooth with a newly purchased Douk Audio mini bluetooth tube preamp purchased to add bluetooth to the bose radio. OMG, night and day difference. The speakers dissappeared with a wonderful soundstage. The Tube preamp helped “warm” up the vocals to a much more pleasing presentation. These speakers are joy to listen to when paired with that preamp.I have one more set of speakers to compare to that are due to be delivered this afternoon Kef LSX. The LSX are more than double the price, I am very eager to hear them with and without the preamp to see if the same magic happens when bypassing the builtin speaker bluetooth.Had planned to return these if they Kef’s sound justifiably better, but now plan to put these in my shop and later down the road add the audioengine sub. My shop is a much bigger space so that sub will help.

Waited a few months before writing this to really let them come into their own. Not really sure how/why these bad-boys are classed as ‘computer speakers’ – they’re more on par as actual fidelity-listening speakers. If you’re looking for a (decent) set of speakers to squeeze in the usually cramped spaces on either side of your monitor, you’d be better served with Logitec or Klipsch’s offerings for about 1/3 the price (I upgraded to these from the Klipsch 2.1s).If SQ is paramount, you’re going to want to go with AE’s recommended spacing of 6ft – yeah, I know…who’s desk is that big, right? Like I said, these things don’t want cramped spaces (IF you want to get the most out of them). I bit the bullet and got a pair of stands for them (also available on AE’s site – can be had for a few dollars less elsewhere if you look around) – made all the difference in the world. If you listen to a lot of bass-heavy music, consider getting a stand-alone sub for that extra low-end extension – I find the bass to be lacking from them (for my tastes), but that’s a matter of preference. AE also carries a sub to mate to them, but I went with one from JL Audio.Regardless of their classification, these are top-notch speakers – you’d be hard-pressed to find better for the price. Buy with confidence.

Firstly, not cheap. Secondly, well worth the investment for the sound field they produce around my computer workstation. They do a good job of filling the room they’re in as well as most of my upstairs. Excellent response from top to bottom, with awesome separation of bass, mids and treble frequencies and sufficient power to satisfy an aging rock & roller! And as a bonus, they can be left ON all the time unlike some other speaker pairs. Much research went into this purchase but I’m very well satisfied that these speakers have earned a place to stay in my office for quite some time!

These are overpriced, in the sense no one should be wasting this much money on only two speakers. But having already bought them, I love them. They are perfect for a turntable and bluetooth set up (which is hard to find/build), so I can play albums one minute and the switch to streaming something off my phone the next. (OR plug in my laptop to play lossless audio files, you can actually tell the difference between file quality on these!) SO do I recommend you buy these? Hell no. Go buy a cheaper pair and spend your money on something more important… but if they magically arrive on your doorstep, you should definitely keep them.

I recently had my old set of computer speakers die on me after 3 years (of course, out of warranty). I was very happy with that set, but had no luck in finding someone to repair them (even the manufacturer was no help, shame on you Corsair!).Now I don’t know if everyone else is like me, but when I have to replace something that I liked, it has to be either the same exact item…or an upgrade. The worse thing for me would be to get something and be underwhelmed when compared to the last item I owned. After doing lots of research around the internet, I kept getting steered into the direction of Audioengine. I’ve had my eye on the A5’s ever since, and once Black Friday came I blinked and took the plunge.Long story short, I am extremely satisfied with the purchase. I don’t pretend to be an expert who goes into the numbers and breaks down the science, I don’t have the time for that. But what I am, is someone who has been purchasing and listening to high end audio equipment in my home, car etc etc for many years now. Price has never been as important to me as my satisfaction (within reason of course). I know what my ear likes, and I know what clean and quality sound like. These speakers hit the sweet spot and go way beyond. I am now picking up sounds and even imperfections in audio recordings that I never heard before with my old set of speakers, there’s a lot more warmth and detail than before. I also love my music loud, and these speakers play all the way to the edge of “sheeesh that’s too loud!” without any distortion or loss of quality (no bass drop off etc). One minor critique I would have is that for people who enjoy listening to the full spectrum of music, or simply enjoy their hip hop, reggaeton etc…you will most definitely need a subwoofer for these. My old Corsairs had a massive sub, so I don’t think I would have been happy without one. I was prepared for this, and already had a sub that wasn’t being used from an old home theater set up. Again, this is a minor critique since anyone who enjoys a lot of base should already know that a small driver isn’t going to provide you with a lot of low end. Their punchy, nice for rock music…but they won’t do much more.Another critique is obviously the price (Black Friday shaved off $80 so that was the nudge I needed to spring for them). At $400, there are a lot of alternative set ups that would provide a very satisfying experience (Klipsch, logitech, Corsair..if you can still find the SP2500’s) at a much cheaper price point. But head to head, those speakers just can’t match the clarity and power of the A5’s. If money isn’t an object of course, then you could spend 5 or $600 and in turn blow the A5’s away….it all comes down to what price point vs quality are you comfortable with. At $320, that made them roughly $70 more than the Corsairs…..for me? Close enough to justify the sizable upgrade! Finally, for an extra $100 you can have the bluetooth versions of the A5’s. That would have been a nice feature, but personally, I think that’s too expensive. I picked up an Esinkin bluetooth adapter for $15 on an amazon lightning deal, and it does the job just fine. I could see $30 more, but $100 really isn’t justifiable imo.Soooo long story short, if your in the market for some high end desktop speakers…you need to at least give these a listen, their outstanding and I just can’t see someone ending up disappointed with their performance.

Fantastic speakers! I have 5 sets along with 4 of the Audioengine S8 8-inch Powered Subwoofer:  Audioengine S8 Black 8-inch Powered Subwoofer . Formerly I was using the Bose Companion 20 speakers and obviously the Audioengine blow the Bose away. I also have quite a few of the Bose SoundTouch 30, 20 and 10’s and I prefer the Audioengine A5+. (I use one set in a small bathroom without the subwoofer.)If you share a wall with a neighbor you might not be able to use the subwoofer much. Without the subwoofer in my small bathroom the bass is so-so but for sure not strong enough for my taste – it’s MUCH better with the subwoofer. As you can see in the pics it’s a bit much to fit on my master bathroom counter but I wouldn’t be happy with less. Two small downsides on the subwoofer:• A remote would be very helpful to adjust the subwoofer volume.• It’s difficult to see the notch on the dials to make adjustments. I made a white mark with a white Sharpie ( Sharpie Extra Fine Point Poster Paint Marker-White ).Other products pictured that I recommend:• Adjustable standing/sitting desk:  Crank Adjustable Sit to Stand Up Desk with Heavy Duty Steel Frame (60″, Silver Frame/Black Top) • Tripp Lite Isobar Surge Protector Power Strip:  Tripp Lite Isobar 4 Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip, 6ft Cord Right Angle Plug, & $50K INSURANCE (ISOBAR4ULTRA) • Motion Sensor USB Rechargeable Lights:  Wardrobe Light, OxyLED Motion Sensor Closet Lights, 20 LED Under-Cabinet Lightening, USB Rechargeable Stick-on Stairs Step Light Bar, LED Night Light, Safe Light with Magnetic Strip, 3-pack, T-02U • Pyle Subwoofer Sound Isolation Platform:  Pyle PSi15 Acoustic Subwoofer Sound Isolation Platform Dampening Recoil Stabilizer Speaker Riser Platform Base (for Studio Monitor, Subwoofer, Loudspeakers, Shelf Speakers, etc.) 15” x 15”, Single Unit • Audioengine Desktop Speaker Stands:  Audioengine DS2 Desktop Speaker Stands (Pair)

The sound quality is next level! I have a music technology background and I can say these are rhe oeefect mix between very high end studio monitors and luxury home sound system speakers. They look so sleek. Quite modern with the glossy piano finish. Heavy, solid build, with rich balanced sound. The bass does not sound boosted at all the highs are tight and clean. Theres also no white noise at all in between audio playing. Easy to synch to my phone or computer set up. They also can get considerably loud without distortion to the audio. Size wise they are large for standard computer speakers but on the small to medium scale for studio monitors. I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL! WISH I BOUGHT THESE SOONER

I’m writing this to hopefully save someone else time and money. First set of bookshelf speakers; coming from a Bose Soundtouch 30. I read so many Hi-fi site reviews I just ended up more indecisive. Ordered the Presonus R65 first. They weren’t bad. Sound was there but build quality wasn’t. Next I went with SvS Prime Wireless. I really tried to like them but the Play-Fi app you must use for 24/96 is absolute TRASH. Even besides that, they are not $600 level speakers. I was starting to miss my Bose.I only got the A5+ bc they were on sale but would def pay full price again. The enclosure build quality is fantastic. I opened them up and was even more impressed. High end parts with tidy wiring. And I don’t know what others are talking about, the bass is there. It’s a 5″ speaker. How much bass are you expecting?I think the highs were a little better with the Presonus’ but it was also too much at times. I listen to every genre of music and for under 500, Audioengine has straight killed it.Edit: month later, still loving these speakers. My ONLY complaint, is the usb port is 500mA and does not charge a device while playing. It’ll hold a charge if already at 100% but charging and playing will damage the battery. I am guessing they did this to cut down on signal interference?… which that hasn’t been a problem like other speakers either.

So I’ve been using these for a couple weeks. Most important: they sound rich and full, even streaming from my cell’s Pandora. I hooked them up to my TV and everything sounds full and clear. I do professional sound and projection for a living. I own pro Bose, EV, Mackie, Peavey, Shure gear. In my living room, Audio Engine made the Rock Hall of Fame Induction show ring true. These are in a different class than my old Logitec 2.1 System with the big sub and separate tweeters. It was always missing the rich integrated mids. These AEs hookup easily and look great. I’m not sure why I was living with bad sound at home.
