UPDATE ONE WEEK LATER: tv started showing dead spots, 4 large circle like smudges. Circles are developing darker spots within, largest circle is the size of a soft ball. Returning this and getting a different brand. The tv is fantastic, without a doubt. There’s only so much you can say about a tv so, it’s just good. Now the shipping, if you see it’s being delivered via “ceva”, prepare for a hassle. Was delayed a week due to transit which is understandable. The big issue is the bottom of the box is beyond dirty with grease and such from the truck. Stained my carpet which I’m now on hour 3 trying to get clean.

Before buying this TV, I had bought a cheaper 4K TV and quickly returned it. Here’s the reason: The standard framerate of most videos is about 24 to 30 frames per second. At 720P or even 1080, this is OK because you can still follow each part of the picture (except in very fast moving scenes). For example focus on a person’s eye in the image. At DVD resolution the eye is essentially a dot. At 1080P you can see much more detail but it’s basically a fuzzy dot at that point. Tracking the movement of the subject’s eye from one frame to the next is no issue. However at 4K you are seeing the individual eyelashes. And from one frame to the next these eyelashes disappear and entirely change position. Sorry, it’s hard to describe. My point is, that for this reason, videos that appear smooth at 1080P will appear very jerky and flickery at 4K. A video that appears smooth at 30fps at 1080 will require 60fps at 4K to appear the same smoothness. So if your 4K TV does not have motion interpolation technology, any true 4K material below 60fps will be very difficult to watch. So the Motionflow feature of this TV saves the day! It is an awesome technology!Additionally Sony includes a feature they call Reality Creation which greatly improves the detail of textures and shapes in lower resolution material so they look as if they were filmed in 4K. The upscaling is superb. Note that these features may be adjusted or disabled for those who prefer, but I set them to max level as they make the picture so detailed and lifelike. I do notice some material appears slightly soft while other material is more detailed. This TV does its best with upscaling things that have defined edges. Text and drawings (animations, manga, etc. in lower resolution appear stunningly detailed and you simply cannot tell they were not already in 4K – it is simply amazing!). Also the vividness, brightness, contrast ratio is quite good.Another great thing is when it went through the initial setup the TV recommended some free apps such as Tubi which brings a large selection of free programming. It’s like getting cable or satellite TV for free, with all these extra Internet-based channels that are included! Being a Google TV, you get access to the Google Play store so you can download a large selection of apps as well, much like your smartphone.Initially this TV had a weird quirk – it would randomly turn on all by itself. After a few times going back and forth with Sony support, they were able to solve that problem. It turns out that by default there is a setting for enabling Google notifications. Google was remotely turning on my TV via their “notifications” feature! The Sony technician turned that feature off and I never had that problem again.

I just took delivery of the 75 inch version, this morning. Gamed on it a little bit just to test it out. Looks great and was super responsive in game mode. Variable Refresh Rate would be nice, I guess, but I don’t think that most people will care. (VRR is supposedly coming in an update, later this year, we’ll see)Blacks Look great on this television. Great contrast ratio. This TV has exceeded my expectations.Anyway, for anyone thinking about buying this one in 75 inches, I’d definitely recommend. This is the best value between the X80J and the X90J. It has a VR panel like the X90J and the same exact inputs.Extremely happy with my purchase. One of the best values of 2021.

This is a great tv that I’m completely satisfied with. It has spectacular colors and really good 4K picture sharpness. Add that to an 85” screen and it’s almost overwhelming. Great job Sony

I bought the 75″, but all I gotta say is this thing is beyond imagination. So far so perfect! I’ll definitely recommend it..

Unbelievable picture, you can step right into it. I just don’t see how you could do better unless your eyes are better then 20/20. And if tv is what you are watching, you aren’t going to get a better pic on anything. The computer you have determines that end if you use it for a monitor. And it is unbelievable, if you have a good computer with good graphics.

My old TV was just wearing down to the point that a “Burn Mark” took form at a couple of corners. Figured it was time to invest in a new TV. I figured if I’m gonna get a new TV, get a 4K with a higher refresh rate. I won’t lie, I did a lot of research just trying to find any TV. A lot of TVs made the promise for a refresh rate of 124hz, but a lot of public reviews for those same TVs note the HDMI ports were all 60hz.Eventually I come across this Sony TV X85J series and while it does have 4 ports, two of them only support the 124hz while the other two is 60. Which is fine, at least when I get a 4K Blu-Ray or a PS5 (which will be a LONG time before I can, thanks to Parasite Scalpers) I’ll be prepared to maximize the potential. The Smart part of the TV honestly caught me by surprise, I wasn’t expecting for my TV to just connect to the internet and yet, it did. Set up was kind of confusing too but once I fiddled around I understood and got a more comfortable set up.Watching movies and shows is REALLY night and day from the old TV. Granted the old one still did 1080p but honestly the X85J squeezes the color, it looks beautiful. While the Nintendo Switch can’t get the 124hz refresh rate, games like Smash Bros. DragonBall FighterZ, and even Monster Hunter Rise just makes all those colors pop. And when I do make use of the the refresh rate, it makes a lot of movies and shows I watch on here look smooth and clean. The only downside is I can only make use of the 124hz refresh rate from streaming apps at the moment because I don’t have the hardware means… yet… But I took full advantage of when I connected the TV to my internet and downloaded a lot of apps. The first movie I played was Godzilla vs. Kong when my Blu-Ray copy came with a free digital download, and I doubt I will ever go back to the 1080p for movies.I do love this TV and I can’t wait for the day I get a PS5 because that’s gonna make a lot of games I got look beyond great. You might notice though I did 4 star the money value. While this is still a pretty affordable high-end TV, the 55 model was actually going for the same price as the 50. Why is that a problem? The problem is the 55 was too big for my current entertainment center while the 50 inch fit perfectly so I got the 50. I had to pay the smaller one for the same as the bigger one and I won’t lie I’m a little bummed about it.One other note that I find a bit annoying at the beginning is every Input has its own visual settings (Brightness, Contrast, ect.). In the long run it’s kind of smart, you can literally have every input be a different visual output for certain media preferences. But its annoying in the beginning because if you have multiple devices to hook up, you got to set it to how you want it for every single one which makes it a little inconvenient. But once its set, it stays like it until you change it.All in all, I really do enjoy this TV. Was it expensive, yes, oh very much so. Did I have to pay that much… no. Do I regret it? Not in the slightest. This TV has opened a whole new way of watching movies and games even look gorgeous with the color that pops out.

I have been using this TV for a few months and am enjoying it. I actually have been watching less TV lately (meaning streaming and DVD use, as I don’t subscribe to cable or receive local TV stations). I’ve yet to use all the smart capabilities as it seems to do a lot and I’m not tech savvy. I need to look for some you tube videos to learn how to use it with Alexa. I love that I can speak into the remote to find movies. If I had my way, I would re arrange the remote buttons I wish it were possible that they make different remotes we could choose from.

The media could not be loaded. Great tv. Ordered the 75” with Sony HT-X8500 soundbar. Beautiful picture quality. Soundbar automatically set itself up with TV. Games look AMAZING! Super fast set up. No lag time in loading anything. Very happy with this purchase!
