This is a review for Bayer Seresto dog collar for small dogs:This purchase was made a while back. I am only now entering my review because 1) time is an issue for me 2) I can now share with near certainty that the product works. First a little history: sometime last year we missed the 30th day dose of the Frontline that we were using then. Unfortunately those couple of days turned into an unwanted turning point. Within about a month we were seeing little crawly things on our sweet little pooch. In no time we had a major flea infestation in our home! We continued with the Frontline but were not seeing any results. So we did various non-flea bomb things: we went to great lengths to get rid of the fleas inside and outside the house, we bathed our dog frequently, we combed out the disgusting bugs on a daily basis, we got the Seresto collar and we stopped the Frontline and switched to Nexgard. Our problem went away in about 4-months. Long time right? Well, fleas can linger for a while so don’t think you can get rid of them so easily. You might think that our problem was resolved because of the Nexgard (which also works) but I think our problem was resolved because of both. Since our problem was so severe, at the recommendation of our vet, we bathed our dog a lot. Poor thing. The fleas really did a number on her skin and coat. The thing with Seresto is the directions call for infrequent baths. This, we found out, is because the chemical effect has to ‘restart’ each time after a bath. This is where the Nexgard came in as a backup or insurance. Our problem was extreme so the baths for our darling Cavalier were necessary – we used a special antiseptic shampoo that helped her skin and killed the fleas that were on her. (Of course, after a few hours back in the flea environment, they jumped on her again.) As we understand it the collar works by releasing an agent that coats the animal’s fur. This is what kills the fleas before they bite. So if you’re bathing your dog frequently, be aware that the collar’s strength will diminish and may not ‘work’ for a day or two following the bath. The collar may then need to be replaced more frequently too, because it is ‘using up’ the chemical faster. Instead of every 8 months, it may be every 6 months. If all you need is maintenance then you should be alright. But if you’re battling a problem like we were, multiple approaches like ours may be necessary. On the flea infestation in our home, we researched every piece of information about getting rid of fleas and applied all that we learned. We talked with a number of customer service reps, wonderful all of them, both at Frontline and Bayer (the makers of Seresto) and even corresponded with a few of the world’s top vets and scientists in the field of flea management. Fighting home flea infestations is a task that requires a lot of work, time and persistence. Killing the adult fleas is not enough. One must make sure the pupae are also eradicated. This next to last life cycle of the flea is the one to fear. Pupae can remain dormant for up to 6-months, hiding in crevices and maturing into adult fleas, months after you’ve stopped fighting. The ideal is to do everything to get rid of the adult flea so that they do not lay more eggs. For us that was the collar and the Nexgard. Focusing on the pupae throughout is recommended too. Since they can linger in your home dormant, you want to stop them from growing into adulthood 6-months after you think you got rid of the problem. Once the pupae mature, they ‘wake’ up, sense the warmth of your pet, jump on your animal baby and start the cycle all over again. In the heat of the infestation, we would sprinkle and rub salt and diatomaceous earth in all the crevices and large swaths of the carpets. This would sit for a few days (yes, a bit problematic when walking over it but well worth it, I tell you.) and then vacuum well. We’d repeat this every 2-3 days for weeks. We’d also launder sheets, and doggie bed covers, and any fabric on which our dog would lie, in hot water, frequently. In order to gauge our progress, we set up a few desk lamps on the ground above aluminum dollar store food storage pans filled with soapy water. This way we could see if the fleas were dying off. Fleas get attracted to the warmth of the light, move toward it and of course they can jump as high as four inches so in they would go into the water. I guess the soap would kill them. Over time, the dead fleas in the soapy water diminished to the point that we knew we had won the battle. No dead fleas in the water meant no more adult fleas in the house or on our dog. With the continued vacuuming, I believe we got rid of the pupae as well. Of note, the vacuuming is also like an earthquake for the fleas and the pupae, stimulating them, making them jump all over the place, allowing them to be sucked up by the vacuum faster. So I say, among other things you can do to combat a bad flea infestation, vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, every 2-3 days if possible for a while, launder everything frequently in hot water, place salt and/or diatomaceous earth in the crevices, use the soapy water pan idea and keep your animal away from shady areas in your backyard because fleas love to live there. They won’t be in the sunnier parts. (We used inexpensive garden wire mesh.) Oh and be careful vacuuming the diatomaceous earth because this could ruin your machine. I used to go easy on the powder. You don’t need a lot. And if you have a bag vacuum, get rid of the bag each time because if you leave it sitting there, the pupae and fleas can get out of the bag and return to your dog. We have a Rainbow vacuum which uses water so dumping the water was much easier than changing a bag each time. Anyway this was my family’s experience with fleas and the Seresto collar. We continued with both collar and Nexgard for a while and never saw a flea again. The Nexgard by itself could’ve been ok but I truly believe in the collar since it is not at all like the traditional dangerous collars of old that are still being sold today. I think if we had had the Seresto from the beginning, we would not have suffered as we did. It’s also so simple. Put the collar on and forget about it for 8 months! Now I will never go back to drops flea control.I hope some of this is helpful. When we were going through our flea trauma I relied so heavily on these types of reviews that I wanted to “pay it forward.” Good luck to you.

We live in SE Houston and the coastal fleas have become mutant super villains bent on world domination. Frontline stopped working completely. Advantage II only works for a week at a time– too much cost and chemicals for your pup. I was starting to think Kona would just have to endure a lot more baths when I talked to a breeder about what she uses for her show dogs. Instantly she replied “Seresto. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.”I have seen the pictures of dogs who have a negative reaction and kept a very close eye on her neck for the first week. Genetics are probably a factor, but I think some of the issue is whether or not your dog has enough fur between the collar and their skin. I left this loose enough that her medium length coat is layered between at all times. The first day I combed her and found a few dying fleas. It took about a week before I stopped finding any at all, alive or dead. Give it some time to work and realize you probably have a lot in the environment that need to have the opportunity to jump on your pet and die. Good riddance!UPDATE: When our second dog (golden retriever puppy) rapidly outgrew his size small, we got him the larger collar. Within a few days, I could feel little bumps around his neck and knew it was an early sign of a reaction. I attribute this to the greater width of the new collar and the fact that he still has some “puppy fluff” instead of all his adult fur yet. The bumps have since scabbed up, but they are very minor except for causing him some discomfort and making him want to scratch often.Kona (small mutt!) still has no issues whatsoever. I am not changing my review from five stars because this collar WORKS when nothing else has been. We will try again with our golden when he grows some more fur coverage and update again. Keep a close eye on your pet if you are just starting use of this product.Update summer of the same year: Now that our puppy has his long “grown up” coat, even he can wear the collar with no issues! We are so grateful and will buy these collars until the arms race against the fleas forces us to switch to something else.

Ordered this about four days ago and NO FLEAS! I was picking fleas off of my little pup every day and now that the collar is on, NONE! Im so happy and I know my little pupper is too! We have four chickens, and live next to an empty field so fleas have been a major problem.I have a 16 year old papillon/chihuahua mix. He was sick from topicals so I’ve been skeptical to use anything with chemicals. He has a history of skin problems as well, but his fur is fluffy enough right now that the collar doesn’t rub too much on his skin. So far so good!UPDATE: it’s been a month since purchase and still not fleas! I literally see fleas jump on him while walking and they jump right off. This product really works and I will continue to buy until proven otherwise :)

I have tried everything to keep specifically fleas away from our dog. We spray our yard and keep her bathed as she is an inside dog. Alas we have neighbors who have at minimum 10 dogs(I’ve called the SPCA many times) they as far a I can tell do nothing in the way of caring for these animals. So unfortunately they are simply breeding fleas and ticks for the rest of the neighborhood. I do feel so very bad for those dogs I have called everyone I can and now have to protect my family. My dog is a Shitzu so she’s quite low to the ground ,she is easy pickens. I digress this collar has been the only collar to help her. We have tried Adams flea and tick sprays powders and collars…. basically if you can name anything you can buy with out a $100 vets bill to follow we have tried it. This stuff works. It doesn’t smell bad, my kids still snuggle her and have had no reactions. Also I like the way it claps is not just like one of the old slides. You can actually take this off to bathe and then put it on again so you don’t have to waste money. It’s expensive but worth it and it last as along as it says on the box maybe a little longer.

Six months ago I chose this as the flea protection for my blue heeler, it impressed me so well I discussed it with my vet and with his seal of approval on this product(he says they love them as well), I’m now back to choose this as my flea and tick protection for my seven pound toy poodle. No more internal monthly chemicals – Goodbye NexGard! My heeler has literally been 100% flea and tick free ALL spring, summer, and fall and this collar is still going strong. LOVE LOVE LOVE these! EDIT >> just to clarify I first purchased the large dog version of the product and upon return I purchased the small dog version.

I purchased this because my dog got ticks first time in 7 years. I would remove them and the following days more would attach. Once I placed the collar on him it was like an automatic repellant. Great product.

I bought this collar for my 5 dogs from a recommendation of a friend who had good results using it on her dogs. I have an older 13yr old dog CoCo who has a severe flea allergy and nothing I tried helped…she was losing weight from all the energy she was using and hair from constantly biting herself. I tried trips to the vet, shampoos, other collars, flea combing twice a day and treated her bedding but nothing worked getting rid of the fleas. All my dogs were constantly itching and scratching but she by far was the worst. I decided to bite the bullet and try to give them some relief. The cost I thought at first was a lot but thought my dogs are worth it so I bought 5 collars. I put them on at the end of September. I was watchful of any neck irritation that I had read about with some dogs but none of that happened. What did happen though is 2 days later I combed all the dogs and NO FLEAS! Also since then CoCo’s transformation has been REMARKABLE!! I included before and after pictures of her now. After I put on the collars I have not used any other flea products this is just the collar at work for the last 8 weeks and these will last for 8mo. I am VERY happy with my purchase and will be buying more.

I can NOT praise this product enough. My husband and I fostered two 4 week old kittens. At that age, they’re too young for flea medicine so when I brought them into my house, I also brought in LOTS of fleas, and gave them a nice home because my house is mainly carpeted. I was getting flea bites, and my dog was scratching- I felt like such a monster doing that to him. After we got those cats adopted, we got the house sprayed for fleas and I gave my dog a bath in dawn dish soap and hand plucked all the fleas off of him. (Took hours) But alas, all of the dead fleas were replaced by alive ones. Got my house sprayed again, then a third time along with getting my dog COMPLETELY shaved. Then my friend recommended the Seresto collar. Within a week, my dog was no longer scratching and I was no longer being bit! This is totally rocked my world and did the impossible. I was so hooked I immediately bought the cat collar when I got my cat. Thank God for the Seresto collar!

Bought this after months of dealing with an onslaught of fleas with my cat and dog. Had been using cheap shampoos and flea sprays but nothing seemed to work on my dog. Finally decided I needed to fork out the money for the good stuff and crossed my fingers. I had given my dog a bath with newer, pricier shampoo before putting on the collar. Watched it for a month. Read the reviews that said it was a fake product so I was a little concerned when my dog was still scratching. Finally gave her a bath again (removed the collar first) and only saw ONE FLEA!! Just one! She’d had a scratch on her neck that wouldn’t heal before and it was all healed! This collar is worth every penny if it keeps her fleas off for 8 months. I highly recommend it.

The media could not be loaded. I swear by Seresto collars. Seresto kills the fleas AND lasts for 8 months. In March 2019 I purchased 6 from Walmart. Eight months later, I purchased from Amazon because the price was better. HOWEVER, do not purchase these collars from Amazon because they will send you used collars!! I am going to contact Bayer, because I’m sure they don’t want used collars being sold as new, thereby giving them a very bad reputation!
