10 reviews for Philips Twin TurboStar Technology XXL Airfryer with Fat Reducer, Analog Interface

I need a large air fryer that can cook for 6 people. This is definitely the right choice. It can fit a whole chicken or a large pack of drum sticks. The favor is amazing, so much better than the conventional oven. It does have the 2 main negative items: once you set the timer, you can’t reduce it. All I need to fix this is to unplug the power, so it is not a big deal to me. The second item is you can’t see how ready the food is. It is not convenient but I can just unplug and open and see the food, or sometimes the smell gives the que. overall, I really love it just for cooking frozen fries and chicken.

TLDR: Don’t expect “fried” foods, but it beats easily beats an oven for crispy foods either from scratch or from the freezer section of the megamart. Pricey, but high quality from a reputable company. Big enough for a family of 6. Easy to use and easy to clean.Full review:Night one, we tried an assortment of frozen convenience foods- french fries, chicken nuggets, cheese sticks, poppers, and taquitos. Some were just slightly better than the oven, some (the fries especially) were better than the oven, and the taquitos, which came out perfect, beat their fried version, giving all the crunch but zero grease. The next morning, we tried cinnamon-sugar dusted canned biscuit donuts. My kids were in heaven. They didn’t even notice that I used Splenda instead of sugar, saving carbs and calories. Yum.Since then, we’ve baked a cake, made homemade citrus-rosemary chicken breast, roasted Brussel Sprouts (pictured with a Sous Vide sirloin,) buffalo wings, and puff pastry chocolate pockets. All were excellent. The XXL is reasonably quiet, considering the internal fan- roughly equivalent to a microwave from the 1990s. The controls are simple to use and, being analog, shouldn’t fail on us (an issue for those machines with digital touch screens, or so I am told) and the non-stick surfaces are easy to clean. In short, it works like a dream- but, according to the reviews, so do many less expensive models from other manufacturers. So one question remains: is Phillips really worth the price tag?I spent a year researching before buying. I’m that kind of person. My wife and I teach public school in red states and we’ve got four growing kids, so budget matters in my house. The Phillips won be over based on build quality and support options. If you look at any Phillips model side by side with the other brands in most stores, you can see and feel the difference. The basket, the base, heck, even the plastic just feel better. And when you read the reviews, it seems as if other brands have a high number of lemons plus poor customer service. Many people rave about other brands, but those who run into issues frequently complain that repairs and replacements can be difficult or downright impossible.I know for a fact that Phillips does repair and replace. In fact, I have done business with one of their authorized repair centers in the past when I bought a refurbished espresso machine. Sure, I could have gambled with a cheaper brand and hoped I got one of the good ones. I probably would have been OK. But with the Phillips, I trust my investment. Plus, it helps that Amazon is letting me spread the cost out over 12 months interest free on my Prime card, easing the strain on my wallet.I have no regrets at this stage of the game. I am hoping this machine will last my family for years to come.

The media could not be loaded.  I have been using a Philips Airfryer for the last 7 or 8 years and I love it. It just cooks the food so much better than a traditional oven. I have created a video that shows the new Avance Collection Twin TurboStar, XLL analog fryer along with a little bit of information on how it compares with my older, smaller, Philips digital airfryer.Unfortunately, I have never used an inexpensive airfryer so I really do not know how they compare to these top quality Philips fryers. What I do know is that I love my Philips Airfryer! The items I cook the most are breaded shrimp, breaded fish, steak, french fries, tator tots, and breaded chicken.I hope you find the video helpful!

I have been looking at air fryers for about 2 years now … Finally decided to take the plunge and couldn’t be happier. I looked at this model as well as the digital one and decided this one would be a better fit for us, because it was the larger size. If you love deep fried french fries, give this beauty a try! I used 2 tablespoons of oil, to coat an entire bag of frozen french fries, and 18 minutes later had fries that tasted like I was sitting in a diner. They were delicious. We have also made chicken skewers, sweet potato fries, chicken nuggets, fish and taquitos with great success.. Tried to make potstickers, but won’t do that again. All in all, I am very happy with this fryer. Clean up is simple and the food tastes good, not to mention healthier than the deep fried versions!

Have been seeing negative reviews about the unit smoking. Ours did the first time we used it, and, after being in foodservice for over 30 years, tried it again without using any oil at all, everything turned out better than with the oil. We have had ours for almost 6 months, and use it daily, and after the first “episode” of the unit smoking, we decided to just “dry fry”, and have had no problems with it since we made that decision. I have purchased several of these as gifts for friends and relatives, and told them not to use any oil, because the fan blows it around and gets on the heater, thus causing smoking. One “followed the directions” and used oil, the others followed my advice, and had no issues whatsoever, so, as long as you don’t use aANY oil, it won’t smoke, and fries, potato wedges, even onion rings come out crispy and crunchy, whereas, the first time we used it, was for tater tots, we used oil, the unit smoked, and the tots were very greasy. Simple solution, DO NOT USE ANY OIL, and your food will be perfect.

This is a great way to prepare food. My first try did not work out but I bought the cookbooks and now cooking is great. Food is juicy on the inside and crisp on the outside.

I was skeptical when I saw this on TV, but decided to give it a try. Boy was I happily surprised! I’ve fried fish, chicken & my kids use it for frozen chicken strips/fries & they love it! It’s easy to use, cuts regular cooking time in half & even better, it’s easy to clean!! Looking forward to seeing what more this incredible cooking machine can do!

    For the Truth

I did a lot of research before purchasing this airfryer. I’ve used it many times since purchasing it and I haven’t been disappointed yet. The airfryer has a non-stick surface which is very easy to clean. The basket size is large enough to cook what is needed for a family of six although a second or third batch may be necessary for some things. As long as the food is cooked properly the food comes out crispy on the outside just like an oil fryer. It has become a favorite kitchen appliance to cook with. The unit itself is a little big but would still fit on a normal sized counter top and its not an eyesore. I would definitely recommend this as a healthy alternative to deep frying.

Works really well! I read other reviews before purchasing, and this sounded like a solid piece although more expensive than others. Food comes out crispy on the outside and tender inside. Love using it for salmon. There is nothing like frying in oil, so for items like french fries and sweet potato fries, it works well, but food will be different density than real oily fries. Air fried food is physically lighter.

The media could not be loaded.  According to the product documentation, the model shown here is HD9630/96. It is from the Viva Collection, not the Avance Collection. That model number is HD9630/98. The only difference between the two is that the model from the Viva Collection is analog and the Avance Collection model is digital.I have the XL Advance model, and the XXL is noticeably larger. It also has a few improvements over the XL model:The food basket for the XL is non-stick on the sides and has a wire mesh bottom that is secured in place by metal tabs. It can be tedious to clean. The XXL has a coated mesh bottom that is simple to remove, it cleans up easily, and there is no burnt on grease around the edges to deal with. Those like me who don’t use a dishwasher will appreciate this. The drawer on the XL is one piece, the one on the XXL has two pieces. The base has the starfish shape and then there is a piece with cutouts that fits on top of the base. It’s called a fat reducer, and it allows rendered fat or oil to drain into the bottom of the pan. This helps to keep the fat and oil from smoking. The XL serves up to 4 people and is equivalent to a 3.5-quart air fryer. The XXL serves up to 6 people and is the equivalent of a 4-quart air fryer. For a whole chicken, the maximum size suggested in the user guide for the XXL is 53 ounces/3.3 lbs. I cooked a 4.3 lb chicken in the XXL with no trouble. Placing it in the basket on the diagonal so the head and tail end are towards the corners is best. The same size chicken in the XL will work, but it’s a bit tighter and can be troublesome to turn.I was surprised at how much better this model cooks than the XL version. I would have to turn or shake some things in the XL, but with the XXL, I noticed that even without turning, the bottom of everything that I have cooked so far, browned just as well the top. I am really pleased with the performance of this newest air fryer from Philips. I have owned a couple of different air fryers and neither can compare with the performance of the Philips air fryers.I like that the food basket separates completely from the drawer. The part by the handle is not a part of the body of the air fryer. Just slide the drawer out and lift the food basket right out, no buttons to push or break, and no fear that the bottom will separate from the food basket as it is removed from the air fryer. The entire basket assembly is nonstick so metal utensils and scouring pads shouldn’t be used. The only quirky thing about the analog features of the Viva XXL is that if there is a need to decrease the amount of time set on the timer, trying to turn the dial back is a little tricky. It’s not a game changer, just a slightly annoying feature. The XXL comes with a recipe book that has 32 recipes with color photos. The recipes include meat, fish, and vegetable dishes that are either roasted or fried, and there are dessert and pastry recipes. The book also has a For Kids section that includes a small number of recipes. Additional recipes and tips are available on the philips.com/kitchen website or on the free Airfryer App for IOS or Android which has over 200 recipes.Overall, I recommend this air fryer, it’s a bit pricey, but I think it is a worthwhile investment.
