I looked at nearly all the puzzle feeder options and decided on the red colorful plate with covers over the pockets as the most use full one to try out first. Not too hard not too easy. I also did some “home made” ice cube puzzle versions and a nut’s plastic dish with lid I cut holes into from my bulk department as I have a ton of them (cheap plastic storage containers) that sorta rolls on its side, not quite a ball. I stick some of the dehydrated minnows (vital essentials) so the tails are up, that 4 of my cats love and they have a strong smell. Cat nip or bits of dehydrated liver also works (never feed too much liver to a cat it causes constipation)…with dry kibbles. My cats already get a watered down soup wet cat food (Rx for bladder problems) so I know they’re getting basic food twice per day. I wanted this to leave a small serving of dry kibbles out especially at night as they are pestering us at night if they don’t eat enough! And I got several cats that can open my cabinet lazy Susan and one can open my refrigerator (got a baby lock for that) so I knew they will figure these puzzles out & teach each other! I got six cats and they’re already doing great with half open pockets. I was pleasantly surprised they all really seem to like them, even better than the ice cube trays. Both slow them down they can’t gobble as much at once! One of my cats lays his mouth full open on the side so he can fill it really full! He can not do that with either feeder (gray striped faced tabby in the photos). My older cat didn’t take to this as soon but when hungry she was over at it pawing it for morsels:)Downside is it’s hand washable I put it in a large mixing bowl with soapy water every few days, dump out anything in there before hand. Hand dry. My present cat bowls are side Corning ware dishes I put in the dishwasher! Also very small pockets I still need to put some dry food out as usual The puzzle feeder is for treats and in between feeding only. And it does help keep them amused & thinking.Recommend a mat with lip place mat underneath as it tends to get all over the floor!

So… like MANY other reviews… I also have a “scarf and barfer” who acts like he is starved to death. (he’s definitely not, see photo- he’s happy and healthy) but he follows a very regulated feeding schedule due to his history of GI complication.I debated buying this for over a month and did extensive researchon various brands and types. Nothing really explained WHY this slows the pet down. But it does. And it works well. The reason for this is because the multiple “compartments”, they have to go from space to space which takes time and some are smaller than others forcing them to work a little harder to get to all of the food.I’m impressed. My speed eater now takes longer to eat than my other cat who always takes her sweet time and chews thoroughly. I attached a photo of both bowls for size comparison.I hand wash at night with a little soap and water. It’s easy to clean. I also should mention he eats a GI food that’s TINY kibble and a larger mixed in for hairball control and both fit well in this.

The media could not be loaded. This toy is awesome! At first, my cat didn’t understand it – I would put the treat in and cover it, and he thought it was gone. So I started putting treats in the cups uncovered and he would just eat out of the cups. After a couple of days of that, I put the treat in and just partially covered it, so he could see it, but had to move the drop out of the way to get the treat. Once he’d mastered that, I was able to cover it completely and he knew to move the drop to get the treat. We haven’t gotten to the advanced level with the pegs yet. It’s SO much fun teaching him and seeing him get the hang of it, and it’s great for indoor cats to have a mental challenge and “hunt” for their food. Highly recommend!

The media could not be loaded. So much for a “puzzle”, my sphynx cats are so greedy and clever that they worked it out no problems! I hid the food under just the leaves first time around, and they got that right away, then I put the food in the cups second time around and they worked that out pretty quickly too! Sphynx must be the greediest cat breed out there!!! So much for fun for hours, more like a 5 minute feeding frenzy, but I’m sure they got some stimulation out of it so I’ll pull this out each day for them to workout their little minds and paws. They’re so funny

I got the gray cloud one because it was described as Intermediate level. I have two very clever cats (1 adult, 1 kitten) that get into things. This puzzle works well for both of them. They both figured out the raindrop covers fairly quickly; the kitten figured out the cap covers first, and then the cat figured them out after I showed him one (sort of – I honestly think it’s just luck when he gets it, but he pushes them around); they both have trouble with the disc, which is definitely the most challenging move – it’s quite thick and requires some force. They do use it, though.I started prepping this around our lunch time working from home, and the older one is excited for it every day. The kitten gets excited when he sees it’s something to get into. All in all, a good buy.I should note, it only really works with the flat kibble type food – we buy Sci Diet Adult and Indoor (the indoor are pyramid shaped, more morsel sized, like puppy kibble), and the larger one fits, but can get the cap cover stuck over the reservoir circle. The reservoir is roughly only a 1/4 in. depth. AND even with the flat kibble, there’s a kind of gap between the plastic layers, and I’ve had to gently finagle stuck pieces from the grooves. Already lost a few to the mysterious inside of the case. Let’s hope they petrify. Because of that, however, I am NOT going to attempt any liquid treat in the reservoirs, because that would be a real mess.

The media could not be loaded. It does not work well as a slow feeder of small kibble, but it’s still a great puzzle to use with larger treats, such as feline greenies. As you can see in this video, my cats try to scoop the kibble out with their paws and it gets stuck very easily between the two pieces. I am still happy with the puzzle as they do enjoy using it with the greenies and it provides some nice mental stimulation and entertainment. This is one of the better cat puzzles we have tested.

The media could not be loaded. We have a cat who gets bored easily, is food motivated, wolfs down his food immediately and is super annoying if he’s even a little bit hungry lol. Like crawls all over me at night to wake me up… I bought this to put a mix of cat food and treats in before bed, to keep him occupied and allow him to snack without gorging himself and it WORKS. It’s hard enough that he doesn’t just immediately solve it and eat all the food, but isn’t so hard that he loses interest. I definitely recommend to all cat owners who have inquisitive kitties!

Bought this for our 5 year old tabby who is a little too smart for his own good and a stickler for routine; it’s like living with Sheldon Cooper at times. It took him about 4 pieces of kibble to figure out the basics of how this puzzle works. Now it’s a daily routine that I have to put some kibble in it so he can play while purring happily and loudly. For a cat whose attention span for normal cat toys is very short, this one keeps him interested and engaged until he’s got all the kibble and done a double check to make sure. Definitely a winner!

Our cat, for reasons still not known, gobbles her food. She always has. We raised her from kitten hood when she really was too young to be taken from her mother. However homeless people were giving her away and she was wet from the rain, shivering and very thin so we took her in and kept her. She’s a healthy cat and 12 years old now. For the last five years, we’ve had problems with her gobbling her food and throwing up half of it and then eating that. Fairly disgusting and for years we thought she just had the wrong food. Cats are finicky yes? Not this one.We use these slow down bowls for our Corgis because Corgis hoover their food. We know these bowls work but I wasn’t so sure about these bowls for a cat.We bought this bowl and it slowed our cat down to frustration. She eats at first and then gets frustrated that she kicks the bowl over to get the last few bits of kibble out. But since buying this bowl, we have not had ONE barf incident outside of the occasional hairball which nothing cures because it’s a cat thing.I fully recommend this slow feeder if you have a cat that eats too fast and barfs it back up or a small dog that does the same thing. It really does work.
