Used this for replacement of the factory installed Mach 300 stereo in our 2005 Ford Escape Limited. Installed a Pioneer AVH-1550NEX stereo with a back-up camera. It all works perfectly including the subwoofer. For anyone doing a similar install, I also needed the ‘Axxess Interface AFDI-5V Ford 12V to 5V Step Down,BLACK’ to avoid a thump sound when the vehicle is started; and the ‘MicroBypass ALL AVH-X Video In Motion Interface for Select Pioneer Receivers’ to bypass having to wire in the parking brake (much easier). I found it best to use a wire nut for the red and black wires since other things get spliced in to these.

I needed this harness/connector to allow an upgrade for my truck from the OEM cd player/radio. I did not need to add wires or change pin locations because the color codes wires matched exactly to my new receivers’ set up.

Just bought a ‘04 Lincoln Town Car and didn’t know wether it had an amp/sub or not(couldn’t speak with original owner as it was purchased through a family member and the manual was missing) so I went with this harness because if I didn’t need the amp out harness no big deal, but if I did…well then I’d need it lol. The harness itself is perfect for what it is, a simple harness to prevent cutting and splicing the OEM harness, wires were clearly marked and colors matched the harness for the after market stereo. Went with the Pioneer AVH-X490BS, if you get a pioneer look into getting the parking brake bypass switch. The only problem is that there was nowhere to connect the two blue wires on the harness with the RCA plugs, so I assumed I didn’t need it and just didn’t use it. Reconnected negative terminal on battery and tested radio and it worked great so I figured I was right. I go to install the Infinity Kappa speakers in the rear deck(btw if you have a Town Car be ready to take out the entire rear seat, both bottom and rear cushions to get access to the speakers……) and guess what I see?? A sub and amp…. I was planning on getting an amp for the speakers anyways, and maybe a 8” sub just for a little bass so I’ll just wait to get them rather than hook up the factory amp/sub.If you’re replacing a radio you can’t go wrong with Metra, always quality products. Been using them as long as I can remember, and between work, my personal vehicles and friends/family I’ve installed more car stereos and speakers than I can remember and never had an issue with Metra.

Yesterday I pulled the radio I had installed from my 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis when I replaced it with a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. When I got home with the 2006 I discovered the connections on the 02 were different from the ones on the 06 when I pulled the factory radio out. I quickly got on and found that I needed the 70-5521 from Metra and ordered it here. It arrived quickly in under 18 hours. Since a lot of people have posted confusing posts saying this isn’t the correct part I was worried. Once I opened the package I went to the car and confirmed this is the correct one for the 2006. Within 15 minutes I had it wired to the radio and installed it. Part is as advertised and does fit a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. It does appear that sometime between the 2002 and 2006 the connection did change. The 2002 had the smaller connection that was not compatible with the 2006. Always great products that are easy to install from Metra.

So this worked perfectly, but I only needed the main harness in the package which you can get alone and cheaper (the 70-5520). As it was only a few dollars more, it’s fine and I was happy with the product and the pre-stripped wires which made it very easy to splice to the wiring from the radio. Just want to give people a head’s up, otherwise this fit my Ford Focus perfectly and i am now back to listening to my audiobooks.

Worked perfectly on my 2005 Lincoln Aviator w/ in-dash 6 disc factory head unit (crap).. as some have mentioned install the voltage reducer to eliminate the sub amp pop on start up (see other comments or do some googling).. my system sounds 2x better – the new head unit (Pioneer) breathed new life into the factory speakers.. do yourself a favor when going aftermarket and you have a factory “sub” in the back which this wire harness is specifically designed for.. get a head unit w/ built in crossovers like the Pioneer AVH-X4700BS.. it sounds so good I might just sell my old Audiobahn amp w/ 2 10 inch subs – I guess I’m getting to old to hassle with taking it in & out when the cargo space is needed..

Great product. I’ve had my new deck installed successfully with this product since Jan 2016, but my steering wheel controls did not work. Be aware that this harness doesn’t have pins/wires in every hole. For my Ford, you need Pin 18 to install the ASCW-1 unit into. I ended up not using my ASWC-1 from Jan-May, and I finally decided to get it going again. Since I did not want to harm any factory wires in any way (Metra suggested cutting insulation back on the factory wire and taping the SWC wire to it), I opted to buy a second harness, and remove a pin and wire from it to install into my existing harness. For $5 more, it’s not a bad option but Metra really should include an additional wire or two with it for folks with Steering Wheel Controls. There’s a Youtube video about it, but it’s a lot easier than it looks. You remove the red piece inside the harness, push the tan plastic down under the pin, and that frees it. Then you take the your actual harness, locate the needed pin slot (18 in my case, 20 was marked so it was easy to find) and just push it right in until it clicks. I really wish I would I would have read about this before starting my install. This method will give you a wire to solder or connect your steering wheel control module to. For Ford, it’s the green/white wire. I’m the sorta person who will spend way more time and money to do a job the right way, so that’s why I bought two. I really hope this helps! Enjoy!

It was a great fit. Easy to connect the BOSS Audio BVCP9685A. However if you are using a Android Auto you need to be sure that you wire the parking ground return on the BOSS to ground. Otherwise it will show that android auto or apple auto will not work. There are other bypass connectors available. But that is the easy wiring path going straight to ground. It is not a recommended practice. But Ford did not plan for this when building this vehicle.

Worked great BUT, On my 07 F150 there was an additional connector that this kit did not have a connector for. Long story short, that connector is not used. After a lot of digging, I found the most plausible explanation. Although my truck does NOT have a factory volume control on the steering wheel, it’s said that they all have the wiring at the stereo. So, it’s not needed. There were a few other guesses that I came across but the consensus was that you just don’t need that connector. I didn’t use it and my stereo works fine. Would have been nice if they would have mentioned that in the instruction material. So, I wasted a lot of time, but in the end it worked out great. I soldered all of the connections and protected them with heat shrink.

Just got done a few days ago installing this harness in my daughters 2007 Mustang. We decided to put a Kenwood Double Din Receiver in the car. The car came with the Ford Shaker 500 Radio,CD Receiver from Ford and we felt we needed a upgrade to a Receiver that included CarPlay. Doing my research on the net from what I could see the recommendation was to use the Metra 70-5521 Harness being her 2007 Mustang didn’t have Steering Wheel Radio control. Taking everything apart behind the dash there were 3 plugs coming out of the Shaker 500 Radio. The 2 plugs from the Metra 70-5521 plugged right into the Ford Radio Harness and the Radio sounds fine but to this day I have no idea what the 3rd plug that came out of the Ford original Shaker 500 radio was for. So far everything sounds great and we haven’t noticed anything missing from that 3rd plug now just sitting outside dangling in the dash not being connected to anything. I should mention that the Metra Harness with 2 plugs also came with 2 RCA cables attached that need to be plugged into the back of our new Kenwood Receiver for subwoofer control it said. Thinking that maybe it might of compensated for the unplugged factory 3rd socket but I am not sure at all. Maybe someone will chime in on this post and let me know what that 3rd Ford plug was for.
