Still deciding on whether to go buy the Mackie CR4, CR3 or this. Buy this.I owned the Mackie CR4 a month ago and i returned them for this. What the Mackie lacked was low end bass. It had the mids and highs locked, but bass was absentThese speakers pack a punch. I left the bass on default and turned treble on 90 degrees to the right , then turn the volume up and its lovely. The majority of music and other content out there relies on the presence of bass, so when i couldn’t feel or hear the bass, its like empty and lacking the soul if you know what i mean.If you prefer more treble or more bass, you can do so. You have options, which is unheard of for speakers at this low price range.NOW LET ME GET STARTED ON THE LOOKS OF THESE SPEAKERS.That wood on the speakers is awesome. The speakers are precisely 9 and nine-tenths inces tall and 6 inches wide (from the front left to right). These speakers are a nice size ,but sturdy and beefy too.Overall, Great speakers for studio use or entertainment applications. Also, make sure to use isolation pads to prevent or contain the vibrations the bass causes.

Dear Edifier:In the snobby ecosystem of audiophiles and sound enthusiasts your name rings as clear as a cinderblock dropping in a foggy marsh.”Hey Matt, what are those beautiful speakers laying upon your desk?””Oh these? These are just my Edifiers”(Crickets, sneeze, baby crying)But your audio craftsmanship of your speakers could go toe to toe with my roomate’s Klipsch’s and Harmon Kardon’s at a fraction of their overpriced nature, and you’re completely free of the douchery that sometimes exists in the audio world. Look, we go to the trusted, crazy high priced brands because we see them as a guarantee of quality. (Except Beats, those are just… Well you know.) However, here we have an anomaly in a sea of monotony, a clear champion of a balance of clear highs, resounding mids and sweet sweet solid kicking bass in a polished beautiful faux woodgrain facade. The bluetooth connectivity changed my life after coming from some POS speakers I’ve had since freshman year.10 audiophile tears out of 10, I love these speakers so much.I love you.Love,Matt

…on the Edifier bandwagon. Do you?? Let me start off this review by saying that I’ve owned a *lot* of speakers over the many years I’ve spent searching for the perfect balance of sound reproduction, quality, value and design aesthetics. (Spoiler: the perfect balance probably doesn’t exist…) I own or have owned midrange speakers from Klipsch, Bose, Pioneer, Polk Audio, KEF, ELAC, BIC America, Sony, KRK and Fluance among others. (Yeah… it’s been a long journey!)tl;dr version: IMO, you will not find a set of powered speakers in this price range that offers better sound – or build – quality, regardless of the type(s) of music you prefer to consume. This is the 2nd set of Edifiers I’ve purchased from Amazon (I also have a pair of  Edifier R1280T Powered Bookshelf Speakers – 2.0 Active Near Field Monitors – Studio Monitor Speaker – Wooden Enclosure – 42 Watts RMS  as well). I did a lot of research prior to both purchases, and in both instances sought a decent quality, fairly compact set of powered speakers to accompany a couple desktop computers. The reviews and general “buzz” around the Edifier family of powered speakers were overwhelmingly positive, so I figured that it was a pretty low-risk investment – especially given the very modest price points.Well, I’m here to tell you that the hype is WELL DESERVED. With both sets of these, once they had a bit of time to “run in”, as the Brits are fond of saying, I was truly astounded by the quaily of sound they were able to reproduce. I run everything from crappy/lossy MP3s up to and including 192k/24-bit FLACs through a variety of signal paths, and regardless of the source or the content, these speakers deliver performance well beyond their means.I’ve been listening mostly to acoustic jazz, classical and folk so far, and with the built-in bass and treble controls set to their zero detent positions, the overall presentation is very neutral and laid back, although the bass is still fast and present enough to carry more low end-heavy passages. In fact, I would say that the low end on these speakers is VERY impressive given the size of the drivers and cabinets. They won’t resonate in your chest cavity, but if that’s what you’re after, you’re more than likely not shortlisting these speakers…They image very well – I think the slight upward angle of the bezel (a great design element for speakers likely to be placed on a desktop) helps here.I’ve yet to test the Bluetooth connectivity on these, but I don’t expect any issues considering the overall build quality here. These speakers are solid, heavy, and they seem to be very well put together. They arrived securely and thoroughly packaged, and included all the necessary cables. (Speaking of cables… If there’s one minor gripe about these for me, it’s that the interconnect cable that runs from the powered left speaker to the passive right is quite long – 6′ I think. This is certainly better than having it too short, but obviously for desktop use it’s a bit cumbersome…)Anyway, summing up – if you’ve read thus far, chances are you’re doing your homework and debating whether or not to buy these. Well, stop reading right now, and DO IT. I promise you will not be disappointed. These are very well designed, solidly built, wonderfully voiced speakers that I believe could easily justify 2X or more the price. I and many others have recently become unabashed Edifier fanbois, and I think you’ll see why the first time you play your favorite album through these small wonders.

I bought these as Christmas present for myself to replace my old Bose 301s in my office. I love listening to all types of music and quality of playback is a must. For the price and size, I wasn’t expecting much. They arrived quickly so I put them to the test figuring I could send them back and order something else if they were not up to my expectations. I queued up rock, jazz, acoustics, vocals, and classical tracks that I have heard many times on many different systems. To my amazement it was if I was listening to the songs for the first time. No matter the genre, the music was clean and undistorted at all volume levels. It didn’t matter if I was using bluetooth, the Echo, or my computer. I was hearing nuances in each track that I have never heard before. The bass, treble, and midtones were all in balance and filled the 12 by 12 room with wonderful sound. I have spent much more on other name brand speakers without the same enthusiasm. These Edifiers are not going back. Do yourself a favor; quit looking and just buy them. You won’t believe anything this inexpensive could sound this good.

I rarely leave reviews but these speakers deserve one.First off to give a little perspective I rarely venture outside of Klipsch products. I have plenty of experience with all sorts of high end audio equipment from B&O to reference HK, NAD receivers, so on and so forth… so my amazement with these speakers is not due to never hearing any high end equipment. So why did I even take a chance with these? My little sister wanted a record player setup so I got her an Audio Technica LP60 to start her beginner setup. I wanted a pair of bookshelf speakers for a clean setup and I wanted the speakers to be powered so she didn’t need to mess with an amp. That ruled out the Klipsch bookshelf speakers at this price point and unfortunately I couldn’t use the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system (best bang for my buck of all time, have had them for over 10 years now) as it has a separate sub and too many cables for it to be attractive with her setup.Aesthetically, these are knockouts considering the price point. The fit and finish is excellent, they have a healthy weight to them and no one would suspect that this isn’t real wood. I personally very much like the look with the speaker grills off. It presents itself as a speaker pair only acquired with a higher budget. The important part – sound. They blew me away when I first set them up. They are bright, distortion free and have a surprising amount of bass. In fact, even though I am normally a bass fanatic these satisfy me in nearly every genre of music outside of EDM. They do run out of steam when playing Odesza for example but it is not a bad sound, the mid just starts to pull away and take over. Also, these things can get LOUD. More importantly, there is very little distortion up until max and the separation in instruments/vocals remain.I do not know how many this will help but as I am typing this review I have the speakers sitting directly beside my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. It has been a gold standard for me for over a decade in terms of price vs. performance and while this is not exactly apples to apples (2.0 to 2.1) it may provide some relative insight for similarly priced often computer speaker systems. The Klipsch sounds bigger as if a wider sound stage but this may be largely due to the powered subwoofer. Obviously, the Klipsch wipes the floor in terms of bass performance because of the sub and with the horns in the speakers it does often sound a bit brighter. The Edifier however consistently sounds warmer and a bit tighter. When comparing the two systems side by side the real determining factor is how much bass you need and/or if you need a bookshelf setup as with 95% of media they both perform beautifully. It is only in the bass heavy applications the similarly priced Klipsch system pulls ahead.Additionally, the bluetooth works very well and there is very little lag or interference. The range is great, too.All in all, for a pair of speakers I would have never even considered if it weren’t for this budget system I am putting together, I am incredibly impressed. So much so that I may cheat on Klipsch and purchase Edifier’s higher end bookshelf system and really see what this company is capable of.

Have 3 other powered speaker systems. Two by Bose and one no-name brand from a discount store. The two Bose systems have two small desktop speakers and sub-woofers, the no-name brand has a sound bar and sub-woofer.All three systems give decent sound, but when I fired up these speakers, they blew the other three away for sound clarity and overall frequency response. Have tried them with music and also connected to a TV watching movies and TV shows and the dialogue is finally clear as a bell. There’s good high frequency and bass response without the thumping bass from the other systems’ sub-woofers that would sometimes spook the rescued cats we have in the house. These can deliver a pretty crankin’ bass sound if you like that just by dialing up the bass response knob on the speaker. It’s nice not to have muddy sounding bass and dialogue that some of the other systems delivered.Had looked originally at the Edifier R1280T because of the compact size, but after reading the reviews of this model, the slightly larger size and bass response seemed worth it. It was definitely worth the extra $50 to get these over the other model because even though they sounded quite good on different YouTube reviews, the R1700BT seemed to have the edge on overall frequency response. Plus the BlueTooth connectivity is super convenient. Right now I’ve got an MP3 player hooked to one set of audio inputs, a PC hooked to the other and connect the phone via BlueTooth to stream Pandora. That convenience alone and getting rid of two amplifier/stereo systems used on my previous setups was well worth it in simplicity and space savings.Am thinking of buying another set for the TV because they sound so good, and have a nice wood look as well.Happy camper with these speakers for sure.

Heavier than expected to be for computer speakers- nicely constructed. Very nice sound quality – crisp highs and thundering lows- very expressive actually. Very pleased with the R1700BT’s. The remote is rather small (tiny) can foresee it getting lost within a week-

The awesomeness of these speakers blew me away! I am a 49 year old A/V and home theater afficianado. I have spent thousands and thousands on gear over the last 30 years. Some great, some…not so much. These speakers were very easy to set up. One cable approximately 10-12 feet joins the two speakers.. Only one speaker needs to be plugged in to AC power. This speaker is also the master, and has bass, treble, and volume control. It is important to note that THE MASTER SPEAKER WITH ALL CONTROLS IS THE RIGHT SPEAKER. The master cannot be used as the left speaker. For me, this worked since my Technics LP player is on the right in my bookshelf arrangement. May not work in your setup, and something to keep in mind. An included remote (very small, very handy, with battery included) allows for very easy bluetooth pairing. And this IS WHERE THE MAGIC BEGINS.I put on a few different tracks streamed via Bluetooth to the speakers. Then, I put on “More than a Feeling” from Boston. That is where the sonic journey began. Eyes shut and relaxed, I felt as if I was actually transported to a Boston rock concert. The bass was solid without distortion…mids fairly tight and incredible highs. I moved on to “Tom Sawyer” from Rush. I was blown away….”Limelight” equally blew me away. Slowing it down, I opted for Cat Stevens’ “Wild World”. I could hear every pluck and every strum as if I was in the studio. In my opinion, the sonic excellence of these speakers cannot be underestimated…no matter the price, these are really good speakers. The fact they cost me only $150 is hard to fathom. I will be sending both of my kids off to college in a few years, each with their own Edifier R1700BT!

I don’t claim to be an enormous audiophile, but I know good sound when I hear it. I don’t require $15,000 sound, which is why $150 speakers are in my wheelhouse. I have these connected directly to a Technics record player. They are in our finished attic/loft area which is probably about 200 square feet. These things sound great. Fill up the entire upstairs with very rich, full sound. Surprising bass and the different levels of sound don’t seem to interfere with each other. i.e. the lows don’t interfere with the highs and vice versa. It should be said, the primary music I play through these are classic LPs from the 60s and 70s. Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Journey, etc.My 2.5 year old likes to go upstairs and hit start on the record player and turn these speakers up to their highest volume (and then run away, thankfully for his ears). I have never heard them distort or feel like they are even stressed. And you can hear the music through the WHOLE house.I don’t frequently use the bluetooth or the remote, but I have tested them both and they work as designed. Bluetooth was easy to sync and I didn’t notice any huge sound difference from that to wired. They came packaged nicely and the cabinets seem solid. I really have nothing bad to say about these. For the money, I’m guessing they are hard to beat.

I have had an Amazon Echo for about a year, and like to listen to music and radio stations on it. The problem was that there is no audio output jack to connect it to external speakers, so the sound quality for music hasn’t been great. Recently, Amazon upgraded the Echo to include Bluetooth capability, so that you can now connect external speakers that way. This was a change made to existing Echos as well as new ones; a software update, not a physical update. As a result, I have been looking for a decent quality pair of speakers to connect to the Echo. Most of the reviews I’ve read on these both on the Amazon Edifier product page and outside reviews reference them as computer speakers. I’m sure they would be great for that use, too. These are great speakers for the Echo, too. They are relatively small bookshelf-type speakers. For their size, they have excellent sound quality. They have much more bass quality than I thought they would for their size. They are a little thin on the top end, but, again, better than I thought they would be.The thing that got me to try them, along with the great reviews I found, is that the Bluetooth connection to whatever you are listening to (the Echo in my case) does not drop after a period of inactivity like a lot of Bluetooth capable speakers do. The Echo is on all the time, waiting for you to talk to Alexa. If you leave the power switch on for the speakers, the Bluetooth connection does NOT time out. I can tell Alexa to turn off the lights at night when I go to bed, and then tell her, when I get up the next morning, to play my local radio station from TuneIn and it will play through the speakers. A lot of Bluetooth speakers won’t do that: the Bluetooth connection has to be reset after a period of inactivity. The speakers come with a remote control, so that you can control volume and input (Bluetooth or input jacks) that way, or with the Echo, you can also use your voice to have Alexa raise or lower the volume. If you are going to use the remote for the volume control, don’t forget to turn the Echo all the way up and then adjust the volume with the remote, so that you get the maximum amount of volume. If you are going to use the voice control for volume on the Echo, turn the volume knob on the side of the main speaker all the way up for the same reason. The speakers come with RCA cables to plug in an auxiliary input, as well as a cable with RCA plugs on one end (to plug into the main speaker) and a 3.5mm plug on the other end for your phone or iPod, etc. There is a button on the remote, as well as on the side of the main speaker, to switch inputs from the RCA inputs to Bluetooth and back.Note: When I purchased the speakers the info on the Amazon site said they came with a 6′ cable. I needed a longer one, so I ordered the 16’4″ cable from Edifier. When I received the speakers, I found that the longer cable is now included, not the 6′ long one. Edifier was happy to refund the purchase price of the longer cable I ordered from them, as I didn’t need two of them. Great customer service. And, the info on the Amazon site and on Edifier’s web page is now correct and shows that the longer cable is included. The two speakers are connected with a proprietary cable that is 16’4″ long. It is included, and has a multi-pin jack at each end. It is not just typical speaker cable.I started selling audio/video equipment over 35 years ago. I’m now retired, but I still appreciate quality sound equipment. This pair of speakers will not replace a dedicated, high-end audio system, but for a computer or a smaller area or room, or for the Echo they are perfect.
