The Benebone Wishbone

Dogs love to chew, especially on stuff that tastes like real bacon. The Wishbone is easy to handle, tastes awesome, and stands up to heavy chewing.

About Benebone

At Benebone, we started with the premise that dogs experience scent and flavor in a way we can’t even grasp. So we ditched the neon colors and loud squeaks. Inspired by a dog’s powerful sense of smell, we developed a long-lasting durable chew that’s jam-packed with real bacon. Once your dog takes a bite of our USA-made chews, he’ll be hooked.

We’re Obsessed with Safety Too

Wonder if Benebone is right for your dog? Here’s what you need to know. Since it’s hard, it’s important that your pup has strong teeth. If you’re unsure, check with your vet. Nobody likes an unexpected trip to the dentist. Keep an eye out for wear and tear. Within a month or so, we find that most dogs chew Benebone into submission. See the wear page on our website for helpful photos to determine when to replace yours. Keep away from households with peanut or other allergies.

Personally, I don’t love it – but my dog does. God knows why, because it sure as hell does not taste like bacon….not that I’ve tried. We have 4 or 5 in the house right now because it’s the only toy he does not immediately destroy. It’s a very hard plastic, so great for strong chewers. As it gets worn, the edges get really rough so definitely keep an eye on your dog and make sure they’re not hurting themselves. The wishbone shape is cute, but it’s also pretty easy for my dog to hold between his paws when he goes to town on it. He closes his eyes and gnaws on it so passionately that I get a little jealous because I don’t think I have ever enjoyed chewing something as much as my dog enjoys chewing this (and let’s be real, we have WAY better stuff to chew than they do.)

What on earth do you do with young pups who have tons of energy, sharp teeth, and powerful jaws? You exercise them, of course! And then you give them Benebones. Wow. These are a huge hit in my home.Several times during the last 20 years I’d purchased Nylabones (similar concept), but none of my dogs had shown any interest. It was disappointing because I needed a heavy-duty chew toy for my pets to enjoy while inside the house; I can only guess they lacked enough flavor.Benebones (one peanut butter, one bacon) are a welcome addition. My dogs detected something exciting in the Amazon box, and when I revealed the goodies inside, ALL the pups were interested. They’re still chewing away and swapping flavors. I’m equally delighted! It’s important to remember that powerful chewers (especially young pups with sharp teeth) can destroy just about anything. Let’s face it; they’re born with jaws capable of chewing through animal hide and bone. Chew toys are no exception. My dogs (mixes of Shepherd, Retriever, and Doberman) are fiercely and happily chomping on their Benebones and making a dent in them. As the toy gets wet, it softens on the surface. Teeth marks are evident, and the smooth surface of the toy becomes jagged, BUT the dogs are not destroying it. It’s the most significant difference for me; the surface changes, but not the integrity of the entire toy. You can see where it is minimally breaking down, but overall they are lasting. The toy is solid when dry, and the roughened surface scrubs the dog’s teeth. Then, as the dog continues to chew, the toy softens a little. I cannot detect any odors and I don’t see stains on my rugs or furniture. Thankfully, my dogs haven’t experienced any obvious GI upset, which can happen with natural chews like horns and rawhide. The photo shows both bones after a week of daily assault, and they’re still holding up. Even if they only last for another week, they’re still a far better value than the chew toys that get destroyed within 10 minutes. However, it appears the Benebones will endure many more weeks (if not months) of enjoyment, and this makes them an absolute winner for my brood.Hope this helps!

As a former vet tech, rescuer and pup momma I’ve come across some chewers that take the cake. Of course, one of my own is the worse of the worst. My monster lab/poodle mix can DESTROY just about anything I buy for him . He snaps the ultra kongs in half without blinking and will crack even the largest Nylabones within a few minutes. Even toys marketed as indestructible with money back warranties fall to their death in his jaws. That said …. HE LOVES THIS BONE and hasn’t managed to do much damage to it which makes it one of the best chew toys I’ve ever encountered.

The media could not be loaded.  I was looking for a chew toy that would last longer then a day. We have tried all sorts of toys, bones, balls and Kong toys. Normal toys don’t last an hour. Cinder looses interest in rubber Kong toys or balls. The one thing that kept her interest and lasted was hooves. The problem with them is they smell. Then we found this. She has been chewing on this one for a month and she has not given up on it or destroyed it. We found a winner!!!

I have a seven-year-old golden retriever who was never a strong chewer, she liked gnawing on toys and dental “bones” and destroyed shoes and a carpet when she was a puppy but it was never her favorite activity. Then I adopted two puppies of indeterminate breed, but likely Plott Hound and Lab, and they are aggressive chewers and want to chew on everything. I tried all kinds of teething things, as teething seemed to bother them more than any of the other four dogs I’ve had, and all were destroyed quickly, like they were treats instead of supposedly “long-lasting” chew bones. I tried these bones after I happened upon them on Amazon, and I could not be happier. My dogs contentedly gnaw on these for extended periods of time, obviously in heaven as they do so, and sometimes it’s the only way I have time to get anything done. When they were teething these definitely helped them with teething pain, and now they still want to chew on them every day. They can hold them easily and sometimes the puppies even share a bone due to the unique shape. My Golden had lots of plaque and nasty buildup on her teeth and was headed for needing dental cleanings under anesthesia, but now her teeth are sparkling white without a speck of plaque thanks to these. The bones have worn down over the course of eight weeks, but very gradually and not ever in pieces. Yes, the ends become prickly and are definitely not fun to step on, but I don’t let them chew on them outside to reduce them collecting dirt and rinse them every few days to get rid of whatever is on there. I have watched carefully for any signs of irritation in my dogs’ mouths or teeth issues, and have never seen any blood on the bones even after my dogs have determinedly chewed on them for an hour. They LOVE them, and because they are the only bones I have found that last longer than five minutes for my aggressive chewers, hold their attention for an extended period of time, and get rid of all the plaque on my older dog’s teeth, I HIGHLY recommend them.

For some reason, our golden-doodle prefers this over the traditional nylabone. Maybe it’s the flavor or shape; he’s had it a few months so “newness novelty” would have worn off by now.It would be better if it didn’t get all rough (see picture) and flake off little burrs of plastic that stick in socks and bare feet, but since big blocks of silicone don’t satisfy chew cravings, and most other things are shredded in minutes, this is the best compromise I’ve found.Update: after 6 months, he has really put a dent in it (second picture), but it continues to be a favorite.

My rat terrier chews on these daily. I bought 2 in different flavors – chicken and bacon – and she chews on each equally. She’s a rescue who was one year old when we got her and she was destroying clothes and many other items. We learned to close doors, put counter top items away (she recently realized she can jump up high enough to get on them) and have benebones in our sunroom and my office. I’ve had them for about 4 mos. now and they are still in great shape. I got the medium size wishbone shape so she could put her feet on them to stabilize them for chewing. She no longer chews on her deer antlers which didn’t last long at all and are quite expensive. A winner for us!1/25/21 update – I now have 3 benebones, one in each flavor. I bought the small size which suits her just as well as the medium. All of them are still in great shape.

I have three dogs who all love these Benebones (Lab, Golden Retriever, and Amstaf). They have Different flavors of these bones and my dogs love all of the flavors. The dentist has remarked about how clean their teeth are, which I think is in great part due to these Benebones. They have laundry basket full of toys and since these Benebones are heavier than most of their other toys, they usually settle toward the bottom of the basket. It is so funny to watch them digging through the other toys to get to their Benebones. Over several months, one knob on one of the Benebones was chewed down (little shreads at the time, not a harmful chunk), which meant I bought another round of Benebones for all of them. One of my dogs had to have surgery because she swallowed a chunk of a Kong toy, but even though she is a strong chewer (Bully breed) and can demolish most toys in 15 minutes or less, these Benebones last months before they need to be replaced. I watch their toys to make sure nothing starts coming apart that could necessitate another trip to doggie ER ($6,000 bill and 5 days in hospital). The price of the Benebones may seem a little high, but if you can avoid trip to doggie hospital for intestinal blockage and all the pain your dog would suffer, they are a good investment. It is cute to see each of three dogs grab one knob on a Benebone and pull in three different directions. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Great design and material for all dogs, but especially for Bully types.Update: I am back online buying another set of Benebones. My dogs and I continue to prefer these chew toys over all others. I waited too long to reorder and currently only have one I allow them to chew. With 3 dogs chewing on a Benebone 8-10 hours a day, I am extremely impressed that they have lasted, on average, about 4 months. Two will lay there watching for whichever one has possession of the Benebone to turn her head or go for a drink of water so one of the sisters can steal it and get a turn chewing. Two of them “talk” and will tell me that her sister stole her toy. My solution is to take it away from all of them for a while. Problem will be solved in two days when new shipment of Benebones arrive and each of my girls will have her own Benebone. I need to be a better Mom and make sure I keep a supply of new replacement Benebones on hand since all 3 are despondent when they do not have their favorite Benebones. I continue to highly recommend Benebone chew toys.

So this is our second one of these. I have a Chocolate Lab/Chessie mix and a German Shepherd, and they are chewers! I had to majorly reevaluate the toys and bones we purchased after getting the GSD. He could destroy most toys and rawhide in a matter of an hour if not only minutes. I found this brand at a local pet store. I was impressed that it was American made which it a big plus to me. I gave it a try and I am even more impressed. The dogs love these things. I actually there the first one away and ordered this one only because that kept banging the chewed one on my leg. They had had it so long and chewed on it so much the whole thing felt like a cheese grater when the ran passed with it in their mouth or dropped it in my lap. They can chew on it for days, weeks, months with minimal wear down. This is the second wishbone style I ordered. They have a bowed one but they seem to prefer this wish bone style. I think because they can grip it in their paws and have a good angle to chew. They are pricer chew bone but I feel we have more than gotten our money’s worth out of them. If you have a major chewer, I can certainly recommend you give these a try.

The media could not be loaded.  I had benebones before, and bought two of these medium sizes for our 15 months old English bulldog girl. She loves the bacon flavor and I have a peanut butter for her after this one is finished. She had it for a week and you can see the wear and tear on the video. She torn her ACL so it is a good way to keep her occupied since she can’t exercise or play as before.I really like the brand. The others she had before this looked like a stick and she finished them rather quickly, I had to throw way the pieces that were left because they had about 2.5 inches, and her mouth is pretty big. She had one for cleaning the teeth as well but that one was difficult for her to chew on, this format is perfect.
