UPDATE:04/12/2021 I felt that it is necessary to for this update after watching the new 4K 2160p HDR release of “The Hunt For Red OCTOBER (1990) via my PANASONIC 4K Blu-ray player through my Reference stereo system! ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW! Even after watching this particular movie at least 12 times as HD 1080p, I can say that this 4K TV makes the music and action scenes jump of the screen! Definite hair standing on end on the back of my neck excitement!Original Review:I have had Onkyo,Pioneer, and Denon receivers bought back when they still had decent quality, the last Onkyo went last month. I did a lot of review reading, weighing the pluses and minuses of all the top rated receivers here and locally. Here is what I found. If you have an average listening room/family room you may only need a 100W receiver. The Pleasant Surprise part was when I got all my speakers hooked up and did the setup,I found that this receiver, with a Sub Plus feature is able to drive my speakers more clearly with less power and I still do not go above 1/2 way! Anything above that will my neighbors banging at my door!Save yourself some some considerable expense as I did now, after replacing a $599.00 receiver and a $300.00 sub. Added bonus:If you still need help after reading the quick start, watch the video on Amazon. It is really very simple to set up correctly!

I’ve had a non-HDMI Yamaha 5.1 receiver for a long time now. More and more consoles are ditching optical for 5.1 like the Wii U and Switch, so it was time for an upgrade.Pros:-You can use the on-screen display to set things up faster than the receiver’s panel. I love this.-Supports linear PCM, so 5.1 on the Switch is great.-Tons of settings to configure like individual speaker volume levels. Old recivers probably had that, but they were buried within the front panel’s menus.- You can label inputs, as you’ll see in my images.-Everything just works. I didn’t have to do anything other than switch everything to a straight encode.Cons:-Very little access to wire in the speaker connections, even with my small hands. Each connection is very close to another. Hooking it up was a battle. You only have to do it once so it’s no big deal.-Not a fan of the encoding effects and I’ll always prefer a straight encode to hear the sound as intended by the mixers, but of course they can be disabled. No biggie.-No dedicated input buttons. The BD/DVD, TV, CD and Radio buttons on the remote arren’t what they were on previous Yamaha recivers. Now they set “scenes” instead of just inputs. Now you need to hit the options menu, go to input and change it in there. An odd choice and the only nagging issue.Over all it’s a sweet reciver. Yamaha always delivers. I’ll update this review if it dies or something changes.

Awesome receiver! Works great with my video projector and speakers sound great with this receiver. Setup with the included mic was so cool. Very happy. I researched a LOT of receivers and I am so happy that I got this one.

Absolutely love it. Bluetooth connectivity for playing music from a source device is great but playing my HUGE collection of high quality mp3, etc… files from a USB flash drive is absolutely a dream come true. The files (artists, albums & songs) are all displayed on the TV screen for easy navigation.5.1 channel movie watching is excellent as well. The YPAO auto-calibration for speaker setup is VERY nice.

This is the first time I brought a receiver in 30 years. I still had my old 1977 Marantz which still sound good.I was amazed at how the technology of receivers has changed 25+years. When setting up the Yamaha Rx-V385 I had to get familiar with no balance control,no hi or low filter buttons,no inputs for turntables or cassette players like the old days. Anyway, welcome to 2019. Anyway, I wanted to start a home theater system.I review different receivers on Amazon I came across the Yamaha Rx-V385 I like the reviews of what I read on Amazon and on YouTube. And the price was reasonable. When I receive my Receiver I went right to work setting it up.I Connected my Edifier bookshelf speakers for my front and for the side I have Pyle drivers pip speakers and for that thundering low bass end, I connected my Polk Audio 10 inch speaker. Turn on my receiver and play the movie Heat when the machine gun scene came on it was like I had the machine gun fight right in my living room. This Yamaha Rx-385 receiver packs a wallop in the power department and having good high wattage surround sound speakers helps too.If you think about starting a Home theater. The Yamaha Rx-385 is good place to start with.

Just released so I did not expect to see many reviews-but none at all? Anyway since I like Yamaha receivers and I just bought a new TCL 4K TV that was just released (The 49″ 5 series 2018) I was comparing some of the newest receivers and I felt that this Yamaha gave you the best bang for the buck for a 5.1 receiver. Easy to set up sounds great and has all of the new connections and compatibilities for all 4K and Ultra HD. Don’t hesitate this will work great.

Bought this because of 4K pass-thru. As other have complained about, I experienced audio drop outs with older HDMI cables. Bought a pack of 4K certified HDMI cables and, whaddaya know? Drop outs disappeared. Ignore people who say that 4K cables aren’t needed. Get the high-bandwidth cables. I’ll add to this review the cables I ended up buying.System was the least expensive 5.1 4K AV system and I’ve enjoyed my previous Yamaha AV receiver for quite a while. Go for it, I would recommend to my friends.

I’m really happy with this receiver even though I don’t have any speakers hooked up to it. Not using it for a speaker setup might sound like a waste of a product to some people but honestly I’m finding plenty of value in it with it’s other features. The main reason I looked into getting a receiver was so I could have multiple hdmi devices hooked up to my monitor. I looked into hdmi hubs but there are a couple reasons why I’ve chosen a receiver instead.1. Reliability and ease of use. Ok, so like I said I use a monitor in my room, not a tv. Monitors don’t have remotes so anytime I want to change the volume or hdmi input I have to do it manually. It’s a 32 inch monitor about 3 feet to the side of my bed and it’s a nice arms stretch to do so. Not a big deal and while there are plenty of hdmi hubs that offer remote changing or automatic changing I worry about the reliability of those devices. There are plenty of reviews that state their hubs stop working after some months or the automatic hdmi switching starts changing inputs randomly or getting black screens and such. I just didn’t want to hassle with things like that.2. Bluetooth connectivity. This was another feature that I was looking into. Again, there are separate devices that offer this but just like hdmi hubs you will find plenty of reliability concerns. On top of that there’s audio lag and previously when I bought a bluetooth transmitter I had to return it for that reason. Nice thing about this receiver is there is an adjustment for the audio to increase or decrease the audio timing but luckily it isn’t an issue and the audio seems to be timed perfectly with my bluetooth headphones. It pairs up quickly too.I haven’t tried the 4k upscaling with this receiver because I use a 1440p monitor but it’s nice to know that it’s there. Maybe in the future I will find a use for it. There’s also some neat audio presets for things like movies, music and gaming. It’s actually a pretty extensive list. I suppose I should also mention that each hdmi input can be named to your liking for a nice customization feel so when you flip through them you know exactly what’s connected to that input. You can even use the hdmi ports when the unit is in standby mode but you won’t be able to use the bluetooth connectivity. In the end I think this was a good purchase. It’s priced reasonably and I’m getting good use out of it. Sound quality is great and the customizable features are a definite plus. More expensive than getting an hdmi hub and bluetooth transmitter but I think the reliability and extra features make up for this.

After buying a 65″ LG 4k TV & finding out the picture is great but speakers r crap & then buying a sound bar to improve audio on just everyday cable tv & still audio is crap, took the plunge to buy this Yamaha amp & paired with Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1 CH HTSS, now the audio on tv shows & movies is so much better & understandable. For people who look at reviews for info on watching just everyday tv with these new slim tv’s the Yamaha is a must have for audio & I would recommend this unit to everyone for an intro to 5.1 surround sound at a low price for amp & speakers.l
